painful wrists - any tips?

Hello,

I've just started getting sore wrists (literally about 2 days ago) - never had joint pain above my waist before so not happy. Been feeling a bit yukky so I'm hoping it is just a little quirk - and havent been taking the NSAIDs soooo...

I was wondering if anyone had any good self-management tips please? I don't think they are swollen but they are sore to the touch and very painful to move (particularly in rotation). Should I rest them (and make the poor man do all the cooking ahem) or are they ok to use?

Thanks so much!

thanks both! I'm going to try the peas now. Needless to say I didn't do the washing up - but neither did the OH, we got take out instead...

I haven't got any splints but might try and pick some up in a couple of days if things dont settle. Are tubigrips any good?

    cheers

hi,i was using tubigrip for a long time & they did help a bit.
my gp sent a referal to the hospital & in just over a wk i got my splints.the only problem is the splints are a bit to big(smallest size) & rubbing a bit so ive put a small piece of tubigrip under to stop this.
there helping with the wrist pain & i can still get on & do stuff.
    good luck,debs

Hi, I get very painful wrists. I have splints but try to use them as little as possible as they encourage the joints to get weaker. Also, they stop me doing much, which I suppose is the point! :) Hot pads should help a bit, and soaking them in hot water too is nice.

Soak in hot water, that helps a lot first thing in the morning and slowly getting the fingers and hands moving. Love Sue

my left wrist is badly deformed with OA and I am waiting to go in hospital for a camera in the wrist and maybe a wrist replacement after seeing whats going on, luckly I have got a good DR who wants to see what the minimum he can do to make the pain go away the joint is basically a lump of bone, I was shocked when he spoke of a replacment as apparently they are new and still have a few problems,
I use the wrist supports from sports shop as they breath better, after a while the hospital splints make my hand sweat and feel sore, I also rub and massage cream called Algesal in it doesn't warm up or cool down but works wonderfully, my Dr prescribes it,
I cannot wait to get rid of this pain and am actually looking forward to the op it should have been done by now but had to postpone it until after my hysterectomy on 22nd oct,
