Hi folks

For about ten days now I've been getting gradual symptoms of being run down - exhaustion (more than normal) more severe arthur pain, warning signs of Sciatica returning  about ten ulcers in my mouth, dry eyes etc

Phoned Pain Clinic at work yesterday as extremely worried about the sciatica showing up. Made appointment with my Dr this morning.

However, after a very painful night have now got full blown flu symptoms. Sore throat, swollen glands, very achy and tired. I obviously can't go into the Dr but will ask them to phone house.

Do you think the flu has been causing the sciatica type pains and worsening my OA? I am hoping it is just the flu as very worried it's away to return again as bad as before.

Thanks in advance

Eck

    Hi Eck,

Flu certainly finds all your weaknesses and sends them into hyper drive so in a way I hope its whats behind you symptoms. Even a cold finds mine and flu turns me into a crying pain wrecked thing that only wants to stay curled up.

I really hope your doctor can give you something to help fight off the flu and then, hopefully, the pain will lessen again. A ((( ))) and feel better soon. Cris x

    HI Eck
    Poor old you :(
Well in my experience - flu can REALLY make everything ache! I hope that the doc gives you good phone advice and that when the flu has gone you are back to your old self.
Tuck up and keep warm- plenty of drinks
    Love

    Hi everyone

Thank you for your replies and words of encouragement.

The Dr said it does sound like flu so she is also sure this is what's causing everything but wants me to go back if the nerve pain doesn't go away. She wants me to double my Amytryptiline for now  I don't even take them the nights before I work as they floor me the next day.

Also, I knew this was the case, she says I've likely got a UTI too, she gave me a prescription over the phone which they usually do given my history. So hopefully that is what's been running me down. Hubby been telling me to go for a few weeks now about that as I've been saying I had one and would just 'flush it out' so he's :x with me now. As is my Mum who is in Dundee today. She always gets onto me for leaving it until I'm ill. But she's going to pick up the kids from childcare and take them for tea to give me a rest. :D

Now just waiting for my Manager to phone, it's the new one and he was wonderful yesterday when I became sore so hopefully he will be understanding, I'm sure once he hears me he'll know.

    Thanks again everyone!

I'm sorry you've got flu its horrible isn't it? Aches and pains are symptoms of flu as well! :? Everyone has given you the best advice for treating flu, keep warm, lots of fluids, take paracetamol, if its OK for you to do so, as some meds you may already be taking contain paracetamol. Anyway, the Docs advised you on what to take. It sounds like the best thing to do is sleep through it! :( Hope all goes well, and you feel better soon. Lots of gentle hugs, love Sue((((0000))))

    Hi Eck
It's time to get to bed, plenty of paracetamols, fluids and sleep, if you can

Whenever I get a cold, virus, flu then just about every single bit of me that is affected with the arthritis, which is all over, just screams at me. What normally helps me is a bath as hot as you can stand, then straight into bed. Sweat it out of your system. Paracetomol and fluid. the normal things to keep the fever down.

Poor you. hope you feel better soon. Have they ruled out swine flu?
