Is there an arthritis medication that won't cause skin rash?

Hello everyone,
My name is Hannahh. I need some suggestions from you all for my arthritis problem.
My internal medicine doctor said methotrexate and plaquenil are helping her patients that have osteoarthritis (not rheumatoid arthritis). Are there any good studies that show these drugs do help osteoarthritis? The rheumatologist I had gone to said I should take plaquenil or methotrexate for inflammation in my arteries. Are there any good studies that show this is true?
I do have a positive rheumatoid factor, but no joint erosions and my x-rays show I have osteoarthritis, not rheumatoid arthritis. My stomach can't take NSAIDS or aspirin and tylenol does nothing for the pain. The doctor wants me to only take one tramadol every other day. This is not adequate for my pain.
I have also asked in caring.com but have not received a reply. So I am putting this question here so that I can get some open ended suggestions.
Please advise.
Regards,
Hannahh

Hi Hannah
Bet you don't know what to do do you?
Well I am on plaqenil and it seems to have cured, not caused my rash No real side effect just a bit of an upset stomach for a while. Ok now though.
You have got conflicting diagnoses haven't you? I wouldn't know why I was advised to take them uless they are concerned that the + RF means your arthritis may well also be inlamatory. If it is it could take a while for that to show in your joints and the meds he is advising would/should prevent that happening.
Hopefully you will get some more advice from the guys on here which will help.
I think though it will probably have to be your decision in the end
Take care

Thank you so much Toni for replying to my message.
I have no idea what is going on with my life. Every other seems to be going wrong with me.
Anyway, I shall try and see more medications.
Thanks once again.

Hi Hannah,
Oh 1 tramadol wont be near enough. I take 8 a day and still need the nsaid's and pregabalin as well as sulfa so you really do need to go back to you gp and get it sorted better. I really hope you can find something that works for you and I know there are a lot of good posts about the slow release tramadols (you need Sue Woodbon for that one) and certainly the slow release nsaid's are a lot more effective. Good luck and make them actually help you. Take care Cris0 -
