Has anyone been referred to the pain clinic?

I've been diagnosed with RA and Fibromyalgia for the past 11years. Recently saw a midwife (due to scary fact that i'm preggers) and she asked why I had never been referred to the pain management clinic.
Its never been brought up by the hospital. But now I'm wondering if I had my pain more under control I could have continued working for longer? My OH is pretty cross about it actually.

Should I try and get referred?

Definately get referred to one. Your consultant will do that for you. Perhaps you could ask why it has not been suggested to you before.

Hi, Yes, I have been a few weeks ago, I have been seeing verious people for several years now and my GP said. Did I think I would like to go to the Pain Clinic. I said yes, as I'd heard from someone locally that it was good. They have changed the way I take my drugs and that seems to help a bit and makes remembering easier, as I only take the painkillers twice a day now. Also I have to see a special physio, next month. I go back to the pain clinic in Nov. They seemed to go over everything, which was good. Love Sue

You should definity have been referred to one, especially as your pain control is going to be minimal to safeguard your unborn baby.
You have got to be careful.

How much have you looked into Herbal products? Tai Chi is good for pain. I've started looking into it. My friend teaches it and I am hoping to go along to the first session next week.

Hi Jenzie, congratulations on your pregnancy!! When I was waiting for appt at Rheumatology one of the gps suggested pain clinic to me, but it was never mentioned again. At rheumy apps no one seems interested in the pain, just how the joints are doing. I woould definitely ask for a referral if I were you, as during the pregnancy you will obviously not be able to use all the usual painkillers. Good luck, when are you due? Jay :)

My physio mentioned it to me months ago and asked if I wanted to be referred. I said yes please. I saw the pain specialist last week and she's changed me onto patches. I will see special physio in a few weeks time and hope to start the actual programe which lasts 6 mornings one every week next year. Good luck, the only trouble is the waiting time after referral.
