Hiya Valval, r u on another site too?
If so its vicky!
Anyway for my first rhmey i had to take a wee sample id suggest to wear clothes/shoes u can easily remove as i personally had to have x-rays on my first appointment! Also take questions u want answered because i forgot .. Tissues if your easily upset, i am, so always take some!
Other than that you should be there around 1hr -1hr 30mins and dont worry they r good and will prob give you some informative handouts .. OOO i forgot they ask if there is any arthur in your family..
Thats all i can think of im afraid.
Off to my rhmer on the 12th but might be sooner
Take care xx0 -

Hi Val,
Mine was really nice when I first saw him, he still is nice as well He asked a few questions and sent me for a couple of xrays and then did a couple of injections. He has since really looked at my spine and neck and though I tell you its a good idea to write all your questions down I always forget to take the bit of paper with me. I just wore easy to remove shoes and jeans, t-shirt and shirt. I really hope you have a good appointment and get something sorted. Good luck and take care. Cris x0 -
Hi Val
On my first appointment, they took a urine sample, blood pressure, temp, they put something which looks like a white peg on your finger.
My appoinment was early so I was sent for X Rays, scans, blood tests.
Some of tests results came back the same day via computer. ( I do not know if they do that at other hospitals.)
Other tests he wanted done had to be booked.
I wore lose clothing so they could examine me where I had pains.
If you are on medication take that with you.
I recommend you take something to read in case the clinic is
running late.

Hi Val, When I had my first one I was around 4 hours!!! Had quite a long time with doctor, very thorough. That took around 3 0min. Then bloods, waited a while around 30 min. Then x rays about 1 hour. Then had to wait to get presc, this was the worst, went for coffee still not done, so took 2 hours total. Maybe just my area (L ondon) and at Guys. Make sure you tell them everything (writing it down is a good idea) I took my notes and gave them to her to look at, she was very good. The next time i saw the consultant who wasnt so helpful, very businesslike and in a rush. Good luck Jay0

hi
at my first app i had to undress down to underwear so maybe dont wear your old grey undies :oops:0 -
Hi Val, my first appt with my Rheumy took around about 4 hours, waited for about 30 mins to see her, then had a full examination, blood tests and then full set of x-rays, then I had to see her again and she confirmed that I had RA, sero-negative, and started me on Sulphasalazine.
There should be a nurse available to help you with dressing, don't be afraid to ask love Jaspercatxx0 -
Hi
My first appt was very similar to everyone elses!! X-rays of feet and wrists, blood tests, urine sample, examination - only had to take my shoes off and roll my trousers up from what i remember. I started a little note book when my symptoms started, so made notes of any particular symptoms, how I was in the morning etc. Helps to have the info down in front of you then I made sure I didn't forget to tell them anything - even if you think it is silly say it anyway! Any questions you have - write those down too. Let us know how you get on. All the best.0 -
thanks my app. 4.45 so will be late home if they do all that will let u knowval0

If you are going to be given prescription. Ask for one that you can get in your local chemist.
The wait in pharmacy is sometimes very long. I asked for that and they said it was better than waiting ages for it.

Good luck
Write any questions down that you need to ask before you go
Because i always forget.
They will need to know if your on any medications or allergies so remember to take a list
It is best if you can take someone with you just for a bit of support & dont worry if yor Rheumatologist is any thing like mine he/she will b very kind & helpful
Take care M0 -
Hi Good luck with the appointment! I'd wear something thats easy to get on and off, no buttons or things like that. And decent underwear!!! Taking someone with you is a really good idea and I always try, otherwise I just can't get things straight! Urine sample too, and a list of questions. I hope you have a really good, helpful appointment. Love Sue0
