I'm beginning to think that diclofenac is giving me stomach pains...been for investigation with gastro specialist and had a scan on Friday, so don't know results yet...but wonder if anyone has had problems with anti-inflammatories?
I heard or read somewhere that sometimes plain ibuprofen is better tolerated by some people...any thoughts anyone?
thanks

Hi evabuk
Ibuprofen cause me trouble if I take too many of them. You should ask the doc for omeprazole to help protect your stomach lining as NSAID s can cause irritation and ulceration if you're not careful. Taken with the above there shouldn't be any probs.

Hi Eva
After 2 years I suddenly could not tolerate diclo and was then prescribed another anti inflam which is fine. I was never offered a stomach protector to take alongside diclo.
The anti inflam I take now is fine for me and I still do not take a stomach protector.

Hi Eva,
Sorry to hear your problem with the gastric side. Diclo's may have given me my first ulcer after 4 years of 3x a day and no inhibitor. They treated it and because it was some years ago and they work very well for me I was allowed to go on to the slow release once a day with originally good tablets to keep them off the stomach lining. Now they have got me on the cheep omeprazole and its not as effective and have had a couple of ulcers since but I still have the diclo's as they work so well. I also have IBD and that could have caused the ulcers.
They say there is another one, I don't remember the name but it is something starting with an N, that does the same job as diclo's, but for me they didn't so I have stayed on them with the occasional break while the ulcer heals cus they are so good and work so well for me. Possibly its not wise but its bad with out them.
I hope thats been of some help and the simple answer to your question would be yes, but not too often. Take care, Cris0 -
Hi
I was on diclofenic for a few months, then the R.A pain came back and so I swapped back to Ibuprofen and have been on them ever since, for about 6 years.I dont think you are advised to stay on diclofenic for a long time so I was glad to change. They worked brilliantly at the start, and I was so grateful to be able to look after my then newborn daughter but then the effects wore offand they didny seem to be working as well anymore.

which anti inflamm do you take now, if you don't mind me asking?0 -
Hi evabuk sorry to hear your having a problem with it, I was prescribed in a few years ago for gout, after a year or so I started to get bouts of really bad diarrhoea. At first I didn’t make the connection but as soon as I stopped taking it the problem cleared up.0

Hi, I won't take Diclofenic unless it is an emergency, it has caused 2 ulcers for me, which were successfully treated, I think you should talk to your gp to see if you can have anything else love Jaspercatxx0

I'm like some of the others - i also take omeprazole at the same time as my diclofenac. hope you get it sorted.0

I used to take Diclo orally but then all of a sudden started developing tummy probs. I still take diclo daily but take it in suppository form!  Not the most pleasant but certainly as effective and no tummy pains.0

Hi Eva
I don't mind you asking at all . I was told that these would be kinder to my stomach and as said before I do not take any stomach protectors. The anti inflammatory is Arcoxia (etoricoxib) 60mg tabs and I take two every morning.

With every NSAID omeprozole or a similar type of drug should be used even Brufen coz over time they can cause gastro intestinal problems
GPs should be prescribing htese when your fist put on the drugs0 -
I'm on Omeprazole like some of the others, this was given to me last year when Diclofenac was put on my repeat as the quack says long term use of anti-inflammatories can dange the stomach.
Good luck, hope you get it sorted.0 -
Me too Eva
Both give me belly ache! and aspirin too
Like Elna I have Arcoxia to take but I also have l;azoprazole 30mg to protect my stomach
Hope you are ok

thanks, everyone, for all the replies - most informative.
My stomach pain has got so bad I'm actually having a gastroscopy on Thursday to see what's going on in my stomach...had a pneumo-colon CT scan last week, it's one thing after another for me at the moment.0
