Hi everyone

I saw the specialist today and I've been told that I need a TKR on my worse knee the other one is heading the same way but that'll have to wait. I'm now on a waiting list Not sure what happens next.

It was interesting to see my xrays and I now know why I got those crunching noises in my knee when I tried to bend (bone on bone). I was given all the warnings that it was a serious operation and that it won't be the same as my old knee was (flexibiity wise) ; there could be complications; that it would only last 15 years; I am young at 53 etc. I don't think I have a lot of choice left to me but to have a TKR. Anyway the specialist was lovely he put me at my ease - I did have a little weep on the way home. I wish I wasn't so emotional.

Now I just have to wait. I'll be honest with you I'm terrified and excited at the same time. Terrifed because it's going to happen and terrified that it may not work!!!

    Hi Sharmaine

Well done for making the decision to have surgery. I was told last Dec. that I needed a TKR, but I asked for time to think about it. I am so scared of having major surgery, and worry about things which could go wrong, so I haven't been able to go ahead. I put up with the pain, and I know that I will have to face my fears at some point. You are braver than me, and I will be interested to know how you get on. Perhaps it will give me the courage which I lack at present.

    Hi Sharmaine,

Sorry if you've read this before but I had both my knees replaced at the same time nine years ago - I certainly haven't looked back and am really pleased I had them done because I was bone on bone and life was pretty unbearable before the op

I'm sure you'll be fine but it's only natural to feel scared, keep us posted and any worries just ask as many of the peeps on here have been through it already.

    Luv Legs :D

    Hi Joan
Thanks forthis - it's nice to know that your are ok. It'll be a joy to be able to bend again!!! I think when I'm mobile I'm going to ensure that I join a gym to keep myself fit and strong.
    Regards

    Hi Joan
I don't think I could cope another year steadily going downhill as I have been. I had no other choice but to go for this. My husband threatened to put some expanding foam in if I didn't go!!

I'm a real wuss but I know what I'm going through now is downright horrid.

When i hear more I'll let everyone know my dates etc. Mother-in-law wants to come and spend a couple of weeks with me afterwards - I told my husband that it would not be necessary! My God I'll be up like a shot if I thought she was playing Mother Theresa at my house for 2 weeks!!!!!!
