Hi Guys

Sorry i need a BIG MOAN !!!!!!!!!

I ahev been posting on here about my 12 year old who was diagnosed with arthiritis 5 weeks ago. We were told he was being referred to a childs reumatologist, after 5 weeks of waiting and no appointment i rung the pediatritians secretary this morning. Only to be told that they are behind on there paperwork and the referral hasn't even been typed up yet and will be sent over the next FEW WEEKS. I could probably except that if we'd had a good week like lastweek. But he is starting to go down hill again this week. Although he hasn't had any swelling, he is absolutly knackered and drained and is coming home from school complaining he can't move and his limbs ache and feel heavy. He is so tired achy and low i am alsmost tempted to let him take a day or two off school, but would feel bad for doing that. How long is this going to take, he has been suffering for nearly a year now and i just want them to help my old harry come back !!!!!! I can't bear seeing him suffer anymore.

Sorry everyone ((((

Louxxx

    Hi
    Typical NHS for you.
I had a similar experience with my orthopaedic appointment following my knee surgery. Iwas suppose to have a follow up appointment but didnt receive it so chased it up. The receptionist said that the Dr was on holidays for 3 weeks and so appointments are behind etc... blah blah.
anyways, within 3-4 weeks I got an appointment for about 7 weeks later.
Wuite often you will have an appointment given which can be up o 6 weeks later.
Hopefullt you wont have to wait this long though.
Go back to the GP and get him/ her to pester the hospital, they can really make a differance.

    Hi Lou,

Sorry to hear this you feel very frustrated. :x

I agree with Bailey, it's time to become a nuisance, pester them till you get your appointment - Harry has suffered enough.

    Hi Lou,

Its wrong this as he is a youngster and they should hurry up..... They could do it with a phone call I should have thought! As the others have said pester you GP and maybe get in touch with PALS?

I really hope the gp can prescribe something and help Harry in the mean time and you must now make a nuisance of your self as it seems how ever wrongly that those who shout loudest can get quicker treatment. Take care and good luck, Cris x

Hello I don't blame you for being upset, it must be so hard for you to see your young son in pain. I think, as the others have said, its time to make a fuss, I know from experience if you make enough noise, they get fed up and do something. Also, at a young age it must effect his school life, both work and social, so you need to let them know how you feel. Good luck and I hope he gets an appointment soon, Love Sue

I'd contact your MP immediately . The NHS situation is a current issue so they can't ignore you.

I really hope you get this resolved asap, complain to anyone who will listen.

    All the best

As he is so ill, don't be afraid for him to take time off school. Arrange with the school for him to do some work at home, so that he doesn't lag behind. Pushing him too hard will only make him resent school life.

Email your MP, cc: to the Secretary of State for Health, Andy Burnham, about a Postcode Lottery for treatment. That usually hits the spot in an election run-up.

I'm annoyed that I didn't post this information earlier, go to http://www.theyworkforyou.com/ and you can email your MP on line.
On the odd occasion I have done so I've received a reply within 48 hours.

    Wish you Luck

    Hi
I must add t my post above that my grandmother has been in terrible pain with her knee and she is waiting for a TKR. She got so fed up of waiting and not getting answers etc etc ... well basically a couple months ago she got a taxi to her local A+E department and basically told them she couldnt put up with the pain anymore and that she thought that she might have heart attack because of the pain and stress she was under.
Well, 2 months later, this friday she is having her TKR courtesy of the NHS at a local private Hospital. She had her pre admission yesterday and also a free cup of cocoa whilst waiting for her lift home.
I dont think I could do it because I am quite sy and quiet when it comes to stuff like that, but it just goes to show that 'he who shouts loudest... well cant remember the whole quote
    get my point!?

I know you must all be fed up with me suggesting this, but write to your MP. Works wonders

    HI Everyone

Thank you so much for your support, I have never been on a board where people are so understanding :)

Well, i work with school nurses and spoke to harrys school nurse who works with dr bailey a child reumatologist. She rung me yesterday to say she had spoken to dr bailey about harry and that although the pediatrician has discussed the case with her, obviously she hadn't referred him yet. She is quite keen to see harry but can't without a referral so she has asked that i go to the GP to ask him to refer him directly through the booking service. I rung my GP surgery and spoke to a receptionist who was a complete dragon and said she didn't think the Gp would do it. But i'm going to go along on friday regardless and kick up a fuss if he refusese. I honestl, hopefully don't think he will but we'll see. If he doesn't i will keep nagging the pediatricians secretary, and even approach my MP as suggested by you.

    Thanks again for being there
    Louise

When one of our sons had serious health issues we made an appointment with the GP every week till he was referred - we didn't tell the receptionist what it was about we just made the appointment. He was soon seen by a specialist - thank goodness.
