    Hi Pammi

Not sure if I have same thing, starts between shoulder and elbow on both arms and goes down to fingers sometimes. My arms feel numb and like they don't belong to me. I had nerve tests a few weeks ago, haven't had results yet but women that did test thought they were OK. If I rub my arm it does help and I think it feels like a muscle problem. I'll let you know if I find anything out.

    Love

Hi Pammi,What you describe is something I get a lot, pain in the upper arm just below the shoulder. :( Sometimes I can hardly lift my arm above waist level.I may have the pain for a few days then it easies off for a while.I have had it in first the left arm then the next time it's been in the right arm.(mostly in the right arm lately). My GP said it's 'referred pain',probably coming from the shoulder itself. It feels more muscular than bone pain so sounds a lot like you are experiencing. Hi, I get that, mainly on my shoulders and upper arms I had a neck MRI and they found my neck was mostly OK except for a bone spur which is pinching a nerve sometimes and he said the pain was muscle spasms from that. Nothing can be done about my neck as its too close to the brain. Had rude comments from husband! :( Nerves are funny things though and you can end up getting pain a long way from the place thats causing it, so I hope you find some relief. I feel as if two people have been using my arms in a tug of war!!! Love Sue

Could it possibly be Polymyalgeria Rheumatica. Have a word with your GP. The quickest way to find would be for your GP to put you on steroids 15mg a day over a period of 48 hours. If the pain subsides, then it is possible that it is PMR - polymyalgeria rheumatica.
I then had to start on preds 15 mg for the 1st month and start on a sliding scale until you are down to a caretaker dose. Worth checking out.
hope you feel a bit better soon and find out what it is. lt me know.

Hiya havent been around lately but I've just looked in and saw this topic. I have had this problem in both arms for ages and ages, Rheumy nurse said it was referred pain ?? so I had a steroid injection in my shoulder 2 weeks ago. Has not helped, I also have OA and Polymyalgia so I'm not sure which pain is wot.

I'm due to see nurse again next week so I will report back if I find anything out. I warn you tho, nothing seems to be working for me, I live on Co-Codamol !!
    see ya :P

Hi there, actually i get it in both arms and yes it is more muscle than bone. My hands are really painful in the mornings, I have to take my tabs at 4.00 am so that i am ok to go to work.
It is painful and I cant lift my arms or sleep on them at night, its horrible and I hate it.
But I have it in my hands, writs, arms, very bad right knee and ankles,if it was in one location maybe I could cope with it.

    Hi Vonski

No i get it more on the upper arms on both arms. I think a massage might help or even a sauna.
    thanks

My gp said that paracetomal is better for you than Co-codamol. Mind you, it has only been better for me since I went onto Tramadol and Pregabelin. The first is a slow release pain killer and luckily I am survivingon 2 a day,if I am bad, then I take the third. I can take up to 4 a day.
Pregabelin is for the nerve pain as you probably know.
Could be you might need some Predisilone. I am on 2.5 mg. My gp doesn't want to take me off them completely, because if the PMR flares up then I would have to go back on to 15 mg a day. With high blood pressure, this is not wise for me. It's so difficult getting the right balance for everyone. We are all different
    good luck

Hurrah, Hurrah - it's my birthday soon and I've just had a birthday present. At last there is a mention of PMR. I've got the chronic version, had it 8/9 years, probably also got fibromyalgia and OA - won't know for sure till I see the Rheumy mid-October.
I've been rather shy about joining as according to the info I don't have 'real' arthritis. Well, whatever it is, it hurts.............all over, usually.
I would just say that if any of you experience unusual or additional upper body pain 'specially first thing in the morning, get it checked out for PMR.
Annie - who's really pleased to be here.

Thanks for info joy, actually not heard of pregabelin. I am a dimwit I have Fibromyalgia not the poly one, thought it didn't sound right when I wrote it. Welcome Annie, you will find lots of kind people on this site !
I have to take quite a cocktail of meds as I have OA & RA, high BP & Angina and left over stuff from a stroke I had in 1994. Paracetamol is not strong enough for me . Most days I feel like I have been battered with a cricket bat; like most on this site, the pain moves around a lot sometimes staying in one place for weeks before finding a new site   It's nice to talk to people who understand, living with Arthritis is truely mouldy !
    lol Ddaydream

    Hi Pammi

Does it ever feel similar to when you've been sleeping on your arm and it's gone numb then feeling is coming back? mine does that even though I haven't been sleeping  My hands sometimes start shaking too, it's odd. If you find anything out please post it and let us know.

    Love

Hi to everyone! Apart from PMR I've got diabetes, high blood pressure, depression - all steroid induced, I've been on Pred for nearly 8 years.
Also got late-onset asthma and osteoporosis, and I had a DVT back in July.
Now I'm getting hand and head tremors and they're trying to work out why. Possible Fibro or OA or both.
Life's a riot round these parts - my meds fill an entire cupboard. Happy weekend to all - it's my 65th birthday on Sunday.
