Hi Lynn
Well, there's no need to do a collywobble of this now is there?
You have been a very brave girl. You have taken that first step and no you won't be hugging the toilet seat and no your hair won't suddenly start falling out. Chances are, it may get a little thinner.
Just remember to take your folic acid tomorrow at about the same time you did your injection or tablet. I usually take one every day except the day I have the MTX. You don't say what dosageyou are on. I'm on 20 mg. Will probably take about 12 weeks before you feel any difference and the difference could creep up on unawares.
I suddenly find I'm walking better one day, although I can't say that today. How we react to any meds is completely different. Took about 12 months for the swelling to go out of my hands. My feet don't swell up anymore, although my nails are more brittle.
Good luck let us know how you get on

Well, the moment of truth. Big Baby Collywobble has just taken her first dose of the dreaded MTX, about one hour ago
I am now sitting here, waiting..... will I explode? Will my hair fall out by tomorrow morning? Will I be spending the night in the bathroom, hugging the toilet?
no .....
no .....
and probably (hopefully) not!!
I think sometimes we can get too hung up on the meds and their side effects.
I know that I had problems on the MTX, but sometimes those problems were self-inflicted, or I learned how to cope with them and they became less of a trouble
I do hope that you have not felt too bad, nad that they begin to work for you

Hi
The reason that I take folic acid every day instead of the day I do my job was because I was getting quite a few side affects like thinning hair some weeks. I have experienced a sore mouth with ulcers and a bit of nausea. When I do my check list each week, if I put two ticks down against the list of side effects, then I have to increase the folic acid. We are all different though and you need to discuss these issues with your rheumy nurse as you go along.

Well done Lynn, I know what its like taking them for the 1st time, but one year down the line I'm still taking mine and I am very happy with the results, I try not to think about the side effects and just focus on the pain relief I am getting. Don't forget to take the folic acid as that really helps.
Good luck

Hi Lynn
Took my first dose 4 weeks ago and felt like you...expected something terrible to happen overnight but no I woke this next morning excatly the same..........
I am on 7.5mg and apart from being tired and a little indigestion I am fine, take mine on a Sunday and feel wiped out on Monday and Tuesday morning , I take 10mg of folic acid and my rheumy told me to take it 2 days after the MTX. So far so good, dont know if its working yet as had a seroid jab 6 weeks ago but that should be wearing off about now. Let me know how youare geting on its good to have someone in the same position to talk to.
Good luck

Hi again Lynn
Re. the folic acid, take them as your rhuemy has told you to, its different for different people. they may or may not change yours as you go. i think it depends on your side effects, if any.

ps i started as you taking folic acid 2 days after mxt day, so sounds right to me.0 -

oooh Joy, glad to read that bit! I can't wait for the swellings to go down; left wrist is really swollen and never seems to slter, but other swellings come and go on a daily basis! I wondered if they ever did go.
collywobble - I was exactly like you, the first night I wrote everything down that I felt..... which I think all turned out to be due to nerves anyway! And apart from sleeping like a baby the two nights after my MTX, I havent had any other side effects(now on 20mg).
Good luck! Jackie x0
