Hi
I went to see my surgeon for a review last month, at 6 months post THR. He was pleased with my progress for my new hip, and asked how my other hip was doing. As I have bilateral hip dysplasia, I have been having symptoms in my other hip, discomfort, it giving way etc.. He decided to refer me to another surgeon who specialises in dysplasia etc.. Well, I have my appointment next week.
I am feeling a bit nervous, anxious etc.. now. I am scared he will say I can have the surgery, (PAO) but equally, scared he will say I am not a candidate for it!!
My back pain is really bad at the moment, and I feel that a lot of the pain is due to the hips being out of line with each other.
I also got a date to start hydrotherapy, until end of the year.
I am feeling confused as I have started on treatment, for my gynae probs, in preparation for a hysterectomy. I am worried that I will have to decide which surgery to go ahead with first.
Sorry to go on!!
NB

    Hello Nearly bionic

Well you're nearly there. Glad you existing hip op has gone fine and you have an appointment for the other side. At least you will soon have your unevenness looked at and a decision made, hopefully for the best.
Although I get a lot of hip pain from bursitis on the left which seems to affect my back, I am now experiencing bad pain in my right hip. At the end of the day, it is probably because I am not able to walk correctly anyway. I am hoping they will do an injection when I see my consultant on the 5th November. I expect my OH will suggest I have an MRI scan to find out what is happening, but they seem very loath to do them here. I need answers though, because the pain is letting me down.

I wish you luck with your appointment and glad your consultant is pleased with you. Well don and good luck

    Hi NB
No wonder you feel anxious with all those things going on at the same time. You have just recovered from one op and there is another one or two ahead!! Try taking it one step at a time (no pun meant  ) When I feel overwhelmed with things, I stop thinking ahead and worrying and just get on and deal with each day as it comes.
I hope your next appointment goes well.
    Take care
    Gillx

Thanks for your replies and advice,
I think i do need to take a step back (no pun intended either!) and deal with one thing at a time. I have been feeling a bit down recently, and think that I am feeling more anxious because I am not feeling strong emotionally.
My mum wants to come to my appointment with me, I`m still her little girl at 40!! My hubby want to come to, but he has had loads of time off this year with my op and other appointments.
I will just get this appointment out of the way first and see what is said.
    Thanks again

Hi Nicola, sounds like youve a lot going on at the moment! Which problem are you going to deal with first ? I think the hydrotherapy will help your hip/back problems. Ive started going swimming regularly averaging 20 odd lengths, and Ive found it to be excellent for my muscles; ones Ive not used in years!
Hope you get some good news with your new surgeon, as regards your POA, youve had quite a year so far! Best wishes jk

    Hi, Nicola,

Glad to hear you have your other ap't I hope you are suitable for the alternative. Just think it will buy you time before another hip replacement. As you know that was what I was hoping for. The timing is prob good as you will get everything done at once and really have your life back again. I hope work is going ok and that you get the right result next week. Let us know how you get on and take care

    Hi Janice
It sounds like you are doing really well! :D I have been swimming a few times, when I find the time!! (work takes up too much time!! ) So I am hoping that the hydro will help my back/hip etc.. Just wish I didn`t need to rush into work afterwards. I will probably feel like a nap after.

My hip has been giving way today a lot so feel ready to talk to someone about it.

    Hi Collette
I know what you mean about getting everything over and done with, but i am trying to make plans for a family holiday and would like to have some normality!! Hi Nearly,

Nice to see you again and sorry its all going on for you but I still think go and see what he has to say and hopefully they will be able to get everything sorted and not clash with each other if that makes sense?

I had a lot of hydrotherapy when they did my back and it really helped, mind I loved it cus it was warm in there  You are doing really well with the new hip and maybe when you see the guy he will be able to tell you time scales etc and t wont clash? I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Luv Cris x

    Hiya Hun
Ooh it all comes at once doesnt it!
The hydrotherapy will be so good for you, it will help your back pain, and as for the other problems take one step at a time and see how things pan out when you see the consultant next week, when he knows about your gynae problems he will probs tell you which way it will go.
    Good Luck for next week.
