DLA and ESA

I received a lengthy email about changes to DLA and ESA. I'm unsure if I can post this (I did for a few seconds then deleted it) because I may be breaking house rules.
I would encourage you to sign up for petitions online at No 10 Downing Street as the loss of these benefits may affect you. At the moment only 12,000 signatures have been added.

I think that the long email you refer to has already been posted elsewhere on the forum.

Hello Sharmaine
Thanks for the reminder. I have signed. I remember reading the previous one but had problems getting into the petition. Me and computers. I am beginning to forget a lot of what I use to do on them at work.
I am actually going to write to Phil Hope about mine. I use to know him some year back during a secondment to a project in Corby.
It can do any harm.
cheers
have a good day

Hi
I haven't checked if this email has been posted on the site. One of the big charities had made a statement saying that the government had already made it's decisions re changes to DLA and ESA, however, this had not been confirmed.
I think the government, having bailed out the banks and paid for a billion pound war in another country may be short of the readies for worthwhile causes. It wouldn't surprise me if we find a lot more things being increased such as Council Tax etc.
I hope that everyone makes the effort to sign this petition as it is certainly not looking good. I think this is the reason why so many people are being turned down for DLA etc on initial attempts.
It's getting tough out there. We've paid our taxes and the government don't always spend our money wisely.

Hi Sharmaine,
I signed this a while back and am fairly sure you can only sign once. I really hope they think again but am with you over the amount they have thrown to unworthy courses means really worthy ones will go.... I hope not but glad that this time the post has been made a sticky. Take care Cris0 -
I am going to have my DLA stopped next Jan, although they have promised to re-look at it during Nov/Dec, to see if I am any better after my increasein MTX and other medication.
I'm sure I'm not the only one whois going to suffer and mad when you see so much money wasted in Central and Local Government.
My OH and myself fall just over the limit with savings, so we cannot have our council tax cancelled. I think we are going to have a good spend, and apply again afterwards. Do you blame us?

Don't blame you at all. I'd probably do the same.0 -
Hi Joy
No I don't blame you. Re-apply - they seem to be making a great deal of extra work for themselves. I wonder how successful these changes will be? It sounds to me as if there will be a great deal of people suffering unnecessarily. If a system works why change it?
How many hundreds of thousands of pounds will they spend on new computer software? or indeed new paperwork? public announcements? training? new staff? - change for changes sake doesn't always work.
I expect we'll hear about these changes within the next month or so. If I hear anything I'll post it here.

Hello Sharmaine
thanks for your input in this matter.
I'm trying hard to get my commissions done with my artwork but I am never going to make my fortune. Anything I make usually covers the materials I buy. I don't have the energy to go back out to work. I'm too tired. I have just paid out on some aids for the shower room and bathroom, plus some cuttlery forthe kitchen.
I've also had to buy my a new splint myself. The hospital can only give you one set.. My total bill for these items is £98.00 for just 4 items. The costs for items for disabled people is terribly high, why??? Because of this sort of thing, I need my DLA payment. When it is stopped, I shall be trying to live on £85.00 a week pension. The system stinks :x

Hi Joy
Don't give up trying for your DLA. Have you asked the Citizen's Advice to help you? Sure this service was to help deserving people. The costs does mount up when you need some many aids around the home and because of their specialised nature it is costly.
I sometimes get some bargains from A.di or Li.l (not supposed to advertise)!
I had to give up work early too - I had hoped to work until I was of retiring age. I had a job that I loved. Having OA has changed the way I live my life and I suspect there are many more like us out there. Times are hard.
take care and have a good weekend. I've got my in-laws coming for lunch tomorrow. My husband is going to make the main meal so I've agreed to make the puddings. My father-in-law has a sweet tooth. I'll need to make 2! I think it'll be bread pudding and a cheese cake. Easy - they're staying for tea too.

I shall do what you say. CAB do a great job and I realise they must be very busy with a lot of poor people worried about losing their homes. I feel guilty about worrying them about my probs.
Will make it one of my main objectives this next week, apart from going to the hospital for my monthly blood tests.
Seem to have had some sort of virus over the last couple of days, first thought it was a chest infection coming. Every single muscle in my body is hurting at the moment and feeling quite feverish.
However, will go to CAB this next week. As I am having lots of trouble walking with this 'virus' I shall certainly be having a bad time of it when I see them. They can fill in forms in a way we cannot
Have a good weekend with your family.

Hi Joy
I think it's the change of weather and the damp but I've been hurting all over too. I was in tears last night. I normally only take 1 or 2 amytriptilines at night but had to take 3 last night. Feeling better today.
How are you feeling? My in-laws are due any minute but we're ready for them. House smells lovely! I decided to make a cheese cake and a bread pudding for pudding. My husband can't wait to get his teeth into his Sunday lunnch.
Good luck with the CAB - they'll make time for you.
Have a good day.

Thanks Sharmaine
Don't feel too bad at the minute. Very very tired. I have been taking my full quota of Tramadol today. Paracetamols too.
Anyway. your Sunday menu sounded really good. Decided to do a couple of lamb shanks in the slow cooker. Roast potatoes though, Sunday lunch isn't the same without roasties.
OH enjoyed them anyway.
Have just finished doing a small booklet of poems that my mother wrote when she was a young girl. She died in 1983 (somebody letting fireworks off out here, lots of them)
She also did some beautiful drawings, so I thought I would try and make a little book for my grand daughter Ella. They are the sort of thing she would love.
Going to stop in a moment because my hands are killing me.
See you tomorrow.

Hi Joy
What a wonderfu memento of your mum. I scribble poetry now and again but mine is generally miserable!!!!
I may try to write something a bit more jovial!
I spent today making a couple of pies - one for tonight's meal and one for the freezer. I'm trying to do some meals that I can freeze for when I can't be bothered to cook or if/when I'm in hospital. My husband is a hopeless in the kitchen and I can just imagine what rubbish he'll eat when I'm not there!
Hope you are ok.

My OH does help, but he never puts anything away.
I'm fed up with clearing up after him.
Now, getting back to DLA - cannot get hold of anyone in CAB - I shall have to go down to the Council and make an appointment - won't be tomorrow, waiting for a delivery. I was told by Occ Therapist that I had to appeal.
Again and again.
Joy
