Hi all, hope everyone doing ok, I've been a bit silly, went to get into shower yesterday morning, put one foot over bath, lost balance and fell outside bath, hurt ribs on left side, not too bad. Right knee is swollen and red and very painful. Carried on getting ready for work, as cant let parents down or they cant get to work, but felt a bit rough all day. Not so bad today, bit achy and very tired. Think I need to start cutting back a bit, its hard when people rely on you. I thinkI need some of you to tell me to cut back, cos I dont listen to myself!! As Alice says, "I give good advice, but very seldom take it" Take care all x Jay

Hi Lynn, yes I am listening!!! acting on it is another thing!!! unfortunately I cant get into the bath cos of my knees, its too painful, then getting out again would be impossible!!! i know I need to slow down, but its like giving up, you know, not being "normal" and doing everything I want to. All the time i can work with the kids I feel useful, I know thats silly but thats me!!! thanks for nagging me though!!! take care Jay0

Hi Jay
I am so sorry to hear about your fall. Join the club, with us lot, Rob (who is learning to swim) and me. Rob has fallen down the stairs twice, and recently I have slipped down three stairs indoors, fallen splat walking along our local bridge and this morning fell sideways rushing about in the garden 10 minutes before I was going to catch a train, sweeping up leaves. I am feeling quite achey again after having got over the last lot. I really am getting worried as to how much ill treatment my TKR can take.
I think we should all try to slow down. Pigs might fly!!
Look after yourself!!
Love

Hi Jay,
You can add me to the fall list as well but thats slightly different cus I blacked out. I really hope you will wake tomorrow and be back to normal though I think it takes a few days. Personally I am thinking of getting stabilizers fittedYou take care Cris

Hi, Have you got anything to hold on to getting into the shower? Something like a support rail or handle? I have a couple to help me get out the bath. You can get bath seats from occupational therapy as well. It may be worth conting your local home visiting OT. If you've been referred before you can just ring them up,but if not, your GP will give you a referral form. Falls are nasty, arn't they, and you don't want to end up plastered!!!

Dear Cris and Jay
How are you both this morning?
Poor you Cris, did you pass out and fall very recently, because I did notice you name was not appearing on the forum much the other day or two. I hope you are feeling much better now. Do you know why you may have blacked out?
Luv

Hi Elna,
No I think it was a couple of weeks ago now, the bruising has all but gone..... Just as well cus I got 2 slight black eyesNot sure why, it could have been the neck cutting the circulation the weird bp thing or possibly just pain. It happens now and then, it could also be the drip cus I take a bi of time to get over that. Stabilizers, thats what I need
Hey there is some sun todayHope it dries out the 'new' swamp I seem to have got.....
Love Cris x
Hi Jay,
I also hope your feeling much better today? x0 -
Hi Sue, I dont have a rail in the bathroom, only been diagnosed since July. Didnt know how to contact O~T so maybe I need to see gp. Its strange how they never offer any of these services when they know what you are suffering from!!

Hi val, yes its true, if you can keep going you feel useful. I know I should cut down, even physio said not to work full time, but at the moment i cant let the person down. They will be moving out of London soon, as only in a 1 bed flat, so probably wont be much longer, then I will only have one child for 2 days, so much easier.
:P :P :P0 -
Hi Jordan
I hope you're feeling a bit less bruised today! Bruised ribs hurt!!!
My husband fitted some grab handles in our shower which have helped me get in and out. I've had a couple of accidents in the bathroom- banged one of my toes and I honestly thought I would lose the nail. I also slipped in the bath (my knees are too dodgy to risk the bath these days). It turned black but thankfully didn't fall off.
Take care of yourself. Sounds as if you need some time for yourself.
Set aside a day for your own rest and relaxation.

Hi Sharmaine, sounds like we're all a bit acident prone!!! my daughter blames the drugs! I know I need to cut down on work, but as I said at the moment its difficult. I do try to take it easy on weekends, but sometimes thats hard too as my hubby has a heart condition, diabetes (insulin dependent) and RA too!!! His RA mainly affects hands and shoulders, where mine is legs and feet!!! May possibly have one good body between us!!! Rails would be good, have to looki into it, I lose balance alot too, so should get it sorted.

Hi Jay
I hope your hubby is feeling stronger and you're bruises are healing.
If you ring your local Social Services you can get direct access to your Occupational Therapist. Mine was great and the disability aids I now have in place are helping me enormously. A perching stool in the kitchen; bed lever; raised toilet seats; shower seat etc. These things are on a long-term loan basis. They're also going to put rails outside the house so I get get in and out safely. The OT has arranged for hand rails to be put up the stairs too (this should happen this week). You don't have to go through your GP you can get the ball rolling yourself. These items may help your hubby too.
The OT also said that we were to give him a call after I have my first TKR.
Regards

Hi Sharmaine, Thanks for that. Didnt know I could go straight to OT via social services. Will call them and see what they say. My friends husband is still waiting for things to be done from February though, so not too hopeful. Maybe its because of the area we live in (Southwark in London) Will get ball rolling though Jay0

Hello Jordon
I'm a bit late getting on here today, but oh ouch, poor you. I suppose you have had all the usual silly comments so I won't join the m*****.
I felt silly some time ago when I caught my foot on the edge of the shower tray. Bruised my toes and then went and did it again the next night. Couldhardly walk. And then, would you believe, a friend trod on it. This was back in July. Still badly swollen.
Do take care, try and get those grip handles fitted - we keep putting these jobs off. My OH is fitting a couple in our shower room.
Bless you
hope you have a good night and can get comfortable

Does anyone have misterious bruises that just seem to appear?
I know I do bump into things, but it usually takes a lot to make me bruise.
