I used to be on this forum years ago but they had so many problems i gave up.....well Here i am...back!!!
I've got OA in my hips and spine. I was diagnosed almost 7 years ago....saw a rheumy at the beginning....twice I think....and that has been it since that....I've just been left to cope. Not a very sympathetic GP either!
I had an accident almost a yr ago.....the beginning of Dec ....where I was in a small village and crossed behind a parked car {it was outside a post office} it started, reversed, hit me, reversed over my ankle and then drove over it and away. I was in hosp for a couple of weeks and not allowed to put my foot on the ground for a couple of months after that......well almost a year later my arthritis is worse because of the way I'm walking....I'm topd by the consultant and physio that I will have arthritis in that ankle as well shortly
Well thats my moan for today LOL

Hi Hileena,
Oh being left to cope doesn't sound right with your oa. Sorry about your accident and I hope the ankle will not go there for a long time. It doesn't always follow........ Will keep my fingers crossed there.
Have you got any pain killers or anti inflammatories? Does sound like you could do with some? Could you see a different doctor in the practice? Sadly it seems once they say oa they ignore you in some places, I know mine did and by the time anyone looked at my neck it had pretty much had it so please try and get them to take another good look at you. I hope you can find a doctor who doesn't just leave you to it. Take care, Cris0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the reply...our doctors is a one man band...he is IT!!! I rang another practice who said are you new to the area...No.....have you got a doc...Yes...then we cant take you...so much for that.
For my OA I'm on paracetamol......thats it. When they discharged me from hosp they said take paracetamol {for ankle}...I said but I'm already taking that for OA....didnt make any difference. I buy Ibroprufen {sp?} over the counter and take it sopmetimes. Once he gave me a few codeine as well as the paracetamol. i'm not one of these people that read everything on the list inside tablets LOL but on the outside of the box it said how addictive they were....that put me off taking them

Hi Hileena,
That's more difficult....... You and me need different doctors and can't get anyone to take us on......... I have been looking on the net at doctors near here..... nearish anyway and maybe you have a page on your area? I found it o the NHS choices site. I always get knocked back as the distance is too far for a home visit. Like I am going to ask for one of those!
I don't really know what to suggest. To me it would help you to be on anti inflammatories and Voltral can be got over the counter, I don't know for sure but I belive if you ask for a referral they have to make one for you...... I tried with mine for ages and then went private over something else and he then transferred my test and treatment to the NHS. Its sort of a back door in but with bones, well x rays etc get expensive.
I am so looking forward to the law changing and I shall be straight away from my useless practice! Sorry I am ranting now.
Hey don't give up, try badgering him...... and ask for a referral. If says no ask him what you are expected to do and if there is a practice manager you could write to them...... That's my next move although I am so lucky to have a good Rumo. I really hope you can get it sorted and if I find a way of changing doctors I will let you know. Take care Cris

Hi Hileena
Hello again.I remember you from way back. After a long while, you called in a few times then silence and now your are back, which is good to see but not so good at all to read what has been happening to you. I am really sorry to hear that. It is horrenduous that the car driver just drove off. What a moron. Weren't there any witnesses? I am also sorry to hear that you have not and still are not getting any help at all really. There seem to be so many of these medics around that take the money but are not prepared to help their patients. I wish I knew what to suggest to you. Perhaps you should call this practice again and tell a little white lie in that you are new to the area and have no gp
You look after yourself, your health is important.

Thanks both for your replies......Yes I remember you LOL and I did get back in but then kept having problems with passwords etc...never mind I'm back this time...no doubt as time goes on I'll see a few familiar faces.
I'm going to ring GP in the morning for an appointment......he only has appts in the afternoon...morning is open surgery so goodness knows how long it will be before I get one and then I'll get the usual...{only 10 mins per patient} I'll also try again changing......anything would be better than just one doc. Needless to say when I joined I wasnt like this.
So thanks again

I can't add much more to what has already been suggested, other than to contact your local PCT and ask them to help you.

hello, Welcome back. Sounds as if you've been in the wars! Any chance of compensation? That might help you to buy extras to help you. The pain is not nice though and lack of full mobility, they are things that money can't replace.

Hi again, Hileena
Why not book a double appointment to see this gp of yours, giving you 20 minutes. This is allowed, you know and I am sure the doc and his "friendly" receptionist, that is, if he has one, will be well aware of this!!!!If not, tell him/her all of us at AC say you are able to do this!!

Hi again.
Thanks again for the welcomes...
Well i phoned the doc this morning and wonder of wonders ....got an appt for tomorrow afternoon. I did ask for a double appointment and was told....sorry we cant do that on a Friday?????? This was done before i read your messages LOL Still its better than nothing...I'll just hang on in there until I get him to say he will refer me or else he kicks me out of the surgery....It would be nice if you could do self referrals.
Well I'm heading off for lunch now....be back later

Hi
Mike tell me about Mike jnr????
As for the doc appt. I put it on the end of Jo's story when replying to her.
Basically....OA rheumy no good after initial diagnosis. Just for inflamatory diseases eg RA.
Doc says an orthopaedic surgeon......talk it out with him....maybe time for a hip replacement.....HELPI'm scared if thats the case.}
He's sent a letter to him and says i sould hear in about 3 weeks....so chat to him and see what the outcome is.
He has given me codeine to top up the paracetamol to be take when the pain is really bad.
Someone mentioned compensation......yes...I applied for it.....the man still says it was not his fault!!!!! my solicitor says rubbish ...i've got a witness and she has sent a letter to my solicitor...so he says the man hasnt a chance. The only thing is i was sent to an independant ortho surgeon for a report and he said I want to see you next June with X Rays and then we'll know how bad the damage is......He did send in a report to my solicitor but that was only 7 months after the accident so I will be 18 months after....which is the middle of next year before anything happens.
So thats it. The next thing is to wait and hear from this orthopaedic surgeon at my local hosp and talk to him and see if I really nedd a replacement??
