Hi Chinablue
I am sorry that I cannot help you with the questions you ask but you will have a pre-op assessment when you will be able to ask any questions, you may have. Hopefully someone will be able to help you on here with your questions. Everyone is different in the time they take to "get over ops" but you can still get a rough idea, either on here or at your pre op assessment, if you are not seeing the consultant again before you have the operation.

Hi, It sounds as if the doc you saw didn't give you any information, which is not a good thing. I've not had that done so don't know, but as I have neck probs I googled it and came up with a few sensible British sites that seemed to say, basically the operation dosn't keep you in very long at all. But this may not be the same as yours.
I'm sure your GP would talk it over with you, or get information about it from the hospital. That would be the best course of action, its a bit frightening when you don't fully know what is going to happen. You also need to know for practical reasons, like any commitments you may have to cancel.
I hope you get the information you need and have a good time chat with someone involved with your treatment.

Hi CB
I had 2 discs fused in my neck a few years ago. I can't remember exactly how long I was in hospital for but it was about 5 days I think. The surgery was performed through the front of my neck. I had a dressing/ dissolvable stitches. I had to wear a collar for some weeks afterwards.
Good luck with it and ask the surgeon to explain it all carefully to you exactly what he/she will be doing in your case.

Sorry to hear you have to have an operation but hopefully it will help give you a better quality of life. I'm sorry I don't know what the op involves but wanted to wish you all the very best. Do you have a date0

Hi CB,
I really hope it goes well for you and that it really helps. I had one done in my lumber years ago, like Gill said I don't remember how it was done but I know mine they pulled back in line, trimmed it and then somehow attached it so it couldn't come out again. You should really have had it explained to you better and I hope you can get one of the doctors or Mr's to talk you through it next time you see them. What I would say is mine was done in the '80's and it was very effective. Good luck and I hope it works really well for you. Take care Cris0
