Hi
I thought I should update you all, especially as you have been so supportive for me.
I went to see a new consultant today, referred by the one who did my THR. He was assessing my other (dysplastic) hip.
He was really nice, easy to talk to, and made me feel at ease. I had x rays , which he talked through fully, and he has ordered a CT scan to look at my hip/pelvis in more detail. He thinks I could be a candidate for a Ganz Osteotomy, to restructure my underdeveloped hip socket, and hopefully put off a THR for a long time. I have had a pre op assessment for a hip manipulation under GA and injection into my hip.
So, I don`t have to make any decisions about the major surgery at this point, and the procedure will give a full assessment, allowing me to choose what i want to do with my hip. Something I didn`t have with my other hip, which was too severely affected with OA.
He confirmed what I had thought though: if I had been seen by a surgeon who understands dysplasia 17 yrs ago, I could have avoided a THR, But too late to worry about that.
I am still having pain, using my stick but feel abit more positive today.
Hope you are all ok xx
NB

Hi, I',m so glad you've got some better news now. Its nice, as well, to be treated like an equal and have things explained properly, it gives you so much more confidence. Thats really positive and I feel fantastic for you. Try not to look back, it won't change anything, best to concentrate on going forward now. :D

Take care, lots of love Sue. xxx

Hi NB, glad youre feeling more positive  It sounds like you have a really good consultant, who will be able to prolong the "life" of your other hip for a good while. I was 3 when it was discovered that there was a problem with my hip, and although it was operated on, my medical condition was never fully understood until 4 years ago when my hip "went" so to speak and I went back to the hospital and discovered the cause of the dysplasia was a shallow socket. My own mum didnt even know that! Its good that nowadays there's the expertise and knowledge to address all these conditions. Glad youre feeling more yourself. Take care jk

Thats great news, I am still hoping that my consultant will have a change of heart and consider me for that procedure. But at least it is a weight of your mind and will give you time to deal with the other op. Will pm you tomorrow when I get the details of my work chair and it might suit you.

    Take care

NB I'm really pleased to hear your news. You are so right not to dwell on what might have been but look to the future. I do admire you for that as I know how difficult it is not to say "if only". I wish you nothing but the best and hope this helps ease your difficulty and pain.

    Hi
    Thanks everyone for your support.
i forgot to mention that the new consultant also is referring me for more physio to build up my abductor muscles which are underdeveloped due to the dysplasia. These muscles need to be stronger before he would consider the surgery, as the weakness of these muscles at the moment wouldn`t support the hip after the PAO.
So I am starting hydro on Monday, as referred by my other physio for my back pain, and will wait for my appointment for the physio too.
Just not sure how work will react to my needing so much time off for therapies etc..?!!
