Hello, Just wondering if you had ever done it for arthritis? Spent the evening in agony and wondered about calling - what reaction did you get? Is it ok to do this? I didn't call in the end, finally the meds working (+2). Many thanks

Dont let the system put you off, you really need to contact someone if you are worried and if they don't want to come, ring for the ambulance.
I hope you get on alright. Take care, love Sue0 -
I had to call out of hours gp few weeks ago as had flare up with cutaneous vasculits (comes under umbrella of arthur). Had to go to drs and they were fantastic even called on-call registra at hospital to get advice about my meds etc. I think if your in pain/having flare you have every right to access medical assistance whether that be during day, eve or weekend. To be honest when I was there I couldn't believe what some people were there for. I think us with arthur try so hard to be strong and carry on but where pain management is concerned it needs to be dealt with.
Take care

Hi,ive spent many a time being sick(vomiting)for 12 hrs + then asked the OH to ring gps surgery. He got told they wont come out(i even spoke to gp)can i get down to surgery(i could even get out of bed to vomit).NO i told him.
gp just put out prescription for OH to collect for anti sickness tablets(2nd lot)so i got left on my own whilst he collected them, went to surgery then chemist for prescription.
now ive got emergency supply of antisickness suppositories
sorry but when im sick the other end works too.
so the suppository would rickashay around then bathroom causing damage(ive not been able to use them yet)
so now ive got 3 lots of antisickness rememdies 2 wont stay put & the other has no hope.
ive been advised next time to just call an ambulance.as i cant cope with sickness & meds are no good.

hiya
i've never phoned for myself but always for other people, to start with you just get to talk to a receptionist who will take your details and a doctor will phone you back, well thats how it works in my part of the world. there is nothing wrong with having a chat to the gp, if fact when looking after my gran this year i just phoned the doctor as a matter of course to be polite and say am giving her extra meds! they may then want to see you or just give you advice on what to take. i have always found the doctor to be really lovely but i know they don't like to come out to you but want you to come to them.
don't feel shy in phoning, they are there to help.

I had to phone the out of hours service one night when I was so tired that I took the wrong pills before bed
I was scared to go to bed without checking and they rang me back and were ever so helpful over the phone, despite how foolish I felt and how busy they were, they insted that I was right to rign and check - so I wouldn't worry about ringing if you need help ..... that's what they are there for.0 -

Hi Debs,
Just to add that I keep in a supply of my anti-inflamms and paracetamol in suppository form too as well as the anti-metics for if ever I'm being sick. I find they work quicker that end  than when they're swallowed.
Glad I'm not the only one

Debs, I've actually had to call an ambulance out when I couldn't stop being sick. My hubby didn't want to because it seemed silly to him but I insisted. By the time they got to me I had collapsed and gone into hypovolaemic shock from loss of fluids. I was rushed in and put on a drip as my BP was around 60/32. I was hallucinating it was so low.
Don't ever be put off from asking for help. I could have died without treatment and we thought it was simply vomiting!! If you are worried and presumably not medically qualified, just call them and ask. That's what the services are for.0 -
Hi, We have the system employ a private firm for out of hours calls.Their docs are willing to cover the night/weekend shifts. You phone speak to the receptionist and then they phone you back before comming. Once they've had to fly in doctors form Germany, it made the news. They will come out usually, we often had to call them when I was working with the elderly. Some were very nice, caring people, but they didn't know about how the system in our practice works. We've just been told our practice is to trial a 24 hour surgery, I don't know how that will work.
They have a special driver to take them round. One evening the car drew up and a very old chap was helped from the car and brought in, he was the doctor! He was fine, but we had to help him stand to examin the person as he said his legs kept giving way.
My biggest problem was keeping a straight face! But he was nice and coped with the medical part!!!
Love Sue0
