Hi
I have had for a long time pain in my feet, I saw the consultant a year or so ago and he diagnosed plantar fiscitis I was referred to a physio who said that it wasnt classic plantar fiscitis and he thought it was coming from my back, but when he examined my back he couldnt find where the pain was coming from.
Then after finding out out that I had arthur in both my hips it occured to me that the foot pain may be caused by the way that I walk.
After all the pain I was in last week with every joint hurting my feet were also really painfull too. It really does make me think its all connected.
Does anyone else have this particular problem?????
Denise.

I have a very painful left foot.Every other joint is so much better. When I go to see my Rheummy in November they said they might scan it.If it is a pocket of liquid they will burst it.Personally I think it is the joint. It is very sore but sometimes, particularly first thing and later in the day It is very painful.
I have had it for a few years now.

Hi, I've just started getting pain in my right foot. Across the arches and the middle toes. Its not there all the time, I thought maybe I've pulled a muscle, as my balance has not been too good lately. Its always worrying when a new pain comes along, isn't it?

I have horrid foot pain in both feet. They swell up so much I can't get my shoes on. I recently purchased some MBTs and they are the only shoes I can walk in with minimal pain. My dad pushed me into them - I tried them on, discovered that they didn't make my feet hurt half as much as other shoes and was sold, despite their daft appearance!

Changing your shoes may help. Or visiting an othotist to see if having special insoles made will make a difference. Mine all seems to be RA.

    Denise,

Before I was diagnosed with athritis I thought I had plantar fasicitis. It was only when it didn't go away with physio and other joints started to become affected that I was correctly diagnosed. I had to have steroid injections into the tendon sheaths in my left foot for 2 years. After that it stopped helping but as I have 30+ joints with arthur now I have a systemic treatment approach which means that I no longer treat each joint separately.

If you are unsure about your diganosis it is worth getting a second opinion. As I have psoriatic arthritis I am negative for rheumatoid factor in my blood and it took a while to diagnose. Good luck and keep searching for answers.

HI It sounds quite logical that your hips are causing you to walk in such a way that the pressure is going onto your feef in a different way and giving you pain. Its something you could talk over with your rhummy. Hope you can get it sorted soon. Love Sue

    Hi Denise

I have had plantar fasciitis in both feet, and I know how painful it is. I think it might well be caused by walking awkwardly due to the arthritis in your hips. Mine began when I developed bursitis in my hip, and I was walking with a limp because of that. I was treated with injections and insoles for my shoes, neither of which seemed very effective.

After what seemed like a lifetime, the plantar fasciitis eventually started to cure itself once I had treatment for my hip. Also, I bought a really good pair of flat, lace-up shoes with shock absorbers in the soles. They probably weren't the most fashionable of shoes, but they did the trick. Losing a bit of weight can help too, because the feet carry all the strain of extra weight.

I have had pain in my left ankle for 40 years. After surgery it became arthritic and I suspect that 3 years on walking sticks and crutches, favourng my right foot messed up my pelvic joint and contributed to my lower back pain. Ironically, all the nerve pain from those injuries went down the left foot, so now I have real pain and referred pain in the same foot. After 2 bouts of spinal surgery , 20 years apart I am no longer bed-ridden and am walking without aids.

It gets extremely confusing and frustrating at times, but at least I can walk again! I know I will always have pain, I know when it is not serious, but it still hurts and gets me down occaisionally. It's allowed!

    Hi Denise
I have OA in both my knees and find that if I over do things I get painful feet and ankles. Walking on flat surfaces (supermarkets, town centre arcades etc) kills me. My husband took me to lunch and I was in agony after walking ten minutes on the flat concrete paths. My feet felt sore and hot and the ankle on my better leg felt as if it wanted to pop through the skin.

I think we put pressure on other joints because we walk differently when arthur is present. I find standing in one position for even a minute makes me ache and my joints swell. I sit down to peel veggies etc. The Occupational Therapist supplied me with a perching stool which has been a godsend.

I hope you get some relief soon.

    Hi
    Thanks for all your replies.
I have had steroid injections in both feet but that only eased it a little and I buy fly flot shoes that are designed for comfort and as I work in a shop I find these a godsend compared to ordinary shoes and my work shoes have anti shock in the heels.
My feet are still very painful but the shoes do help somewhat.
(Not the ideal job is it when you have all these problems, but seeing as nobody else would probably employ me and my arthur I am stuck with the job).
    Thanks again

    Hi Sharmaine,

They are a type of shoe. I think the MBT stands for Masai Barefoot Technology, but don't quote me on that! Google is probably the way forward with that one!.

You may well laugh at this, but I have suffered long and hard with my feet. It was painful picking my feet up. I had suffered 10 years like this.
Just before my son's wedding in Aug, thought I would have a pedicure. So I went to one in town, and is run by two vietnamese girls, mother and daughter.

Well, I had these two running about for me, nothing was too much trouble. The mother was a bit rough and when she gripped my ankles to treat each foot, I nearly hit the roof. They must have got a ton and a half of hard skin off, even though I work hard on them myself. Well, to cut a long story short after that day, no more swollen, painful, hard skin. Did experience my big toe and ankle locking a few times, but I don't think anything will put that right, but whereas before I wore size 6 going on 6 1/2 shoes, I am now back to size 5. Since then I have had 2 further pedicures and my feet have remained 'comfortable'.

That is interesting.Sometimes reflexology helps me so it might be the manipulation.Trouble is ,it doesnt last very long.

    Hi Denise

See if you can get referred to a Podiatrist and see about some insoles. I got some a few years ago for Plantar Fasciitis (not sure I had it) and they have helped a lot.

Hope you are ok today. how are the feet.

I wonder if anyone else gets this on their feet or foot. It's worse on my right foot. If I do any walking, even only 100 mtrs, I get quite a bad bruise an inch up from my toes bang smack in the centre of my foot, near the tendon to the big toe. Sometimes it's there for days.

    Hi
I have seen the podiatrist she said she couldnt help and was SUPPOSED to refer me to the next in the line sorry dont know what they are called but they are more specialised than the podiatrist, but the NHS being the NHS it never happened that was about a year or so ago it was only after I knew about my hip problem that I thought that it must be that so I havent bothered about it since because I was supposed to fhave the THR and I thought that would solve my feet problem. but alas that doesnt look like it will happen now either.

    Hello Denise.

It seems like yu should see your GP and get referred again. Go back down that road. Sounds like someone needs shaking up. This problems is affecting your life.
I was immediately referred to a podiatrist. had special insoles made and I know I should wear these shoes the whole time, but me being vain I do not wear them as often as I should especially through the summer months. I'm lucky that I live near Padders the comfort shoe so get to see the special offers. I am still seeing the Podiatrist because I have some funny ingrowing toenails and bad cracks on my feet, but she is very helpful.
You could always try reflexology? I would definitely go see your GP and get things moving and crack the whip.

    good luck

    Hi Denise

Another idea might be acupuncture. I had this for bursitis in my hip when an injection didn't work and I was in a lot of pain. I found it very good, and I think it could help your problem too.

You can have it on the NHS, and it is worth a try. Just ask your doctor about it. I was referred to a physiotherapist who was qualified to do acupuncture, and she came to my doctor's surgery. It took about 8 sessions before the pain disappeared.

    Hi Denise

Hope your feet are feeling a little better.

I have found resting them on an ice pack really helps, rubbing them with with voltarol gel and I've just bought some new fitflop boots which I will try and let you know if they help.

    Rest up

Hi I was a care assisstant before oa stuck its horrible nose in. :( One of the girls I worked with had that problem and she had regular steriod injections and special insoles. She used to be really quite bad before the injection, but fine for a few months after. Maybe you could find out if anything like that could help you?

I have terrible pains in my feet; so much so that 30/500 Co-codamol and Naproxen doesn't get rid of it.

Recently I've tried deep freeze gel and spray which is very good.

You have my sympathy with foot pain! :!: I'm the opposite - don't like the cold gels personally, prefer heat; does it help soothe it at all? I use my wheatbag loads - doesn't get rid of the pain but is soothing and seems to help the ache and stiffness. Sorry can't suggest more other than comfy footwear and whichever painkillers seem to work best for you. Best wishes, Josie
