Hi there my name is Sarah-Jane, i am 38 years old and have chronic OA in my right ankle due to an accident 2 years ago. I would really like to hear from anyone especially fellow OA ankle sufferers, I have been told i need a fusion but have been resisting as i am absolutely petrified. I have just returned to work part time after being off of work for a year and a half, and two opertions later !. Prior to my accident i used to walk up to 40 miles a week, i so miss it. look forward to hearing from you. :)

    Hi Sarah-Jane

Good to meet you. I have oa in both feet and ankles plus various other places following a crash 25yrs ago. Feet and ankles very badly smashed so bone has rubbed on bone the whole time. Bits of mine have actually fused themselves but it did take a few years around 3yrs. My consultant was pleased about this as he didn't want to operate and disturb anything, I have screws. A friend that had his fused wished he hadn't because he always had a lot of pain. He was led to believe that having it fused would stop the pain so was quite put out. I think you should get as much info as you can and think long and hard about having it done.

    Love

    Hi Sarah

I have OA in one ankle, and the consultant told me that he would only do a fusion operation as a last resort, so I wear an ankle support and cope with the pain reasonably well.

Yours sounds more severe than mine though, and only you know whether you can continue with the pain.
