Hi all,

Have had my MRI results and I'm now being referred to an Orthopaedic surgeon with a view to having cortizone injections in my spine to help ease or get rid of the sciatica I have.

Does anyone on the forum have experience of these and how effective are they? My hubby used to have them in his shoulder and the pain relief lasted about 3 months but I don't know anyone who has had one in the spine.

Heather.

Hello, I hav't had them in my spine, but I think quite a few people on here have had the experience. I've had them in my wrists and found that after a couple of weeks they worked well.

Someone who can give you the proper information will be along soon, I'm sure. :)
    Love Sue

Hi, I am waiting to have these done, as I am not ready for surgery yet. I have been referred to the pain clinic to do mine. I have heard mixed reports about them.

    Hi Heather

I have had steroid injections in my thumbs, fingers, shoulder, neck and lower back. The ones in the neck and lower back were both done by xray direction. All have had varying lasting lengths of time of getting rid of the pain. This is infortunately not a permanent solution to the pain and discomfort but can help for a matter of weeks or months.

We are all different, so by all means listen to what we say, but you will not know for certain how long it works for you, personally, until you have had it done.

I wish you all the best with the injections and hope they last a very long time for you,.

    Luv

    Hi Heather,

I have also had a few of these over the years and mine average round 8 weeks with varying degrees of effects. Sometimes they don't seem to work too well but over time you just notice there is less pain. Good luck with it and they do say up to 3 months and my pain clinic doctor says sometimes it can sort out for longer if the inflamation can be reduced so fingers crossed for you. Take care Cris

I have had quite a few over the years.

30 years ago, I had a chronic tennis elbow which lasted years. The 1st inj. lasted 18 mths, the 2nd only 9 mths. still in pain, I begged for a 3rd.They were reluctant to do more than 2 in any one area. So they did another but it made no difference. I ended up having my arm imobilised in plaster between the May and August and when they took the plaster off, they decided they were going to operate. I was due to have the operation in the November, but then suddenly. the pain went. I've not had much trouble except that I couldn't play darts or badminton anymore. My elbow would only go one way. I'm having trouble with it again and had a anticortisan injection in it last April. Didn't seem to work at first but now seems to have settled down. Do get painful flare ups occasionally.
Like everything else, drugs work differently on everyone. Good luck with the injection. You have to try everything in the belief it will bring you relief from pain.
