Aw, snowdrop, wipe those tears away. Some doctors have no bedside manner at all do they? Is there another doctor you are able to see? Why the heck did he refer you to physio as he must have been aware that they would not be able to do anything if your joints are swollen and very sore etc.
I hope you can see another doctor and ask about acupuncture and being referred to a pain clinic. Please don't be beaten by this doctors moronic attitude. Sadly, too many of us are paying out good money to these total timewasters and keeping them in a job.
Brush yourself down, my lovely and hold your head up high. You are unwell and need some help and sympathy, not being shunted from A to B like some package.
Are you on any meds at all?
I think you may be able to begin to apply for a Blue Badge on your local council website or at least get details of how to go about it. When you feel a little stronger why not go for that? It wouldbe of benefit to you.

Hello, Your doctor does't seem to make his patients feel positive about themselves! Don't waste anymore tears on the it as it isn't worth it. You need a plan of action, can you go and see another gP in the practice, who will be more sympathetic? If not I'd try and face hime again and tell him you know about the weight problem, but its going round in circles as you can't exercise with the pain, and that means trouble loosing weight. Ask if they have a nutritionist visit, also ask if he could send you to a Pain Clinic, they have been really helpful to me so far. All they are interested in is treating the pain in any way that seems suitable to you. Meds, physio, pain management course etc in my case. If possible, I really would personally recommend a Pain Clinic.
It makes me cross that a doctor will point out weight as an issue, but not offer you any advice or professional help to loose it! I hope you get on better. Love Sue0 -
Hi Snowdrop
sorry to hear you have a very insensitive doctor.
I have a GP who is so supportive, but there are
other docs in the practice that I wouldnt see, so
it proves that it pays to try another doc at your
surgery.
As for the blue badge, I would apply if you have
difficulty with walking and as far as I know your GP
can arrange that for you or at least ok it.
I told my GP last week that it would be awful if I got
my blue badge taken away and he said
'over my dead body, its me they would contact about
it so no problem there'
so you see, it might be easier than you think to get one.

Hi Snowdrop
What a shame you came away feeling so let down by your GP. Tell me did they send you for an x-ray or a blood test to ascertain why your knees are swollen. Initially I was sent off to see a physio for sciatica but found out years later that I was suffering from OA in both knees. I could have been taking anti-inflams and pain killers long ago.
I would recommend you changing your doctor. If you have pain and swelling or stiffness then there is obviously something wrong. Just get back on that phone and make an appointment with someone else. Can you take your partner with you? Why suggest crutches if nothing is wrong?
You can apply online for your blue badge or download the application form, fill it in and take it to your GP to sign and despatch. Don't forget to get passport photos. I think you also need to send a small payment of about £2.00.
Don't let this get you down.

Even if you don't get DLA you can still apply for a Blue Badge, the doctor then fills in part of the form.
If you do not automatically qualify, your eligibility has to be assessed by your local council. You will be asked to answer some questions to help them decide whether or not you can have a Blue Badge. The council may also ask your permission to get further information from your doctor.

The worst they can say is 'no'.

How very disappointing for you. These days people seem to say you should loose weight, stop smoking, take more exercise etc....... without trying to help with the problems. It's almost as if when they point something like that out I'm so taken aback or feel so guilty I don't push for any more help and won't visit again. I've had similar experiences but simply will not be fobbed off again.
I'd go back to your practice and see if you can see another Dr. too. The one you have seen already does'nt sound very sympathetic and it sounds to me you need to see your Rheumy sooner rather than later too. Is nobody helping with your pain? Are you on meds? Most NHS physiotherapy depts. that have physio's trained in acupuncture and surely you could at least have been offered that? I do feel for you and think you've been badly let down. I hope you find something to ease your pain.

As someone who has suffered terribly with my knees I sympathise with you. I have a blue badge, please dont let the form put you off as it will help youas you are in pain.I am 46 now andhad this since 36 and I do feel uncomfortable and looked at(for all the wrong reasons) but life does go on.
I got some helping aids from social services via the charity that helped fill out my DLA claim.I resisted them at first as they made mefeelold and useless but they make life easier.Your GP might be able torefer you.
On a good note my knees are much better now, poss from the medication.MyRheummy nurse calls them defined knees!
Best wishes,be strong

Hi Alli
It is good to read that you have changed gps, to one you know and have got on with in the past. Hopefully he will help you again now. I believe raised toilet seats and similar items are received via an OT (Occupational Therapist) and I am sure you gp can arrange a referral for you.
Please do not feel a let down to your family, they obvously do not think that so why should you? You are doing your best and that is all anyone can ask.
You know where we are, so do join us as often as you wish and never feel that you are "going on or ranting" - we all do that from time to time and this is a good enough place to do that isn't it, amongst fellow sufferers.
Keep smiling
