i have just come back from my hospital appointment, i had an MRI scan a couple of weeks ago as i have been in constant pain since my hip resurface in Jan, well first of all they said that the scan on my hip didnt come out as the metal gave it a blur & wasnt clear enough for a diagnosis, but they said the scan on my spine showed something & they wanted me to go for a bone scan which i would get the app through the post in the next week and i had to go for a blood & urine test straight away, which i did. when i got home, about 2 hours later, i had a message saying that they want me to come in for a bone scan TOMORROW, this is where i need the help...my mind is going all over the place...why were they so quick...what have they found...are they keeping quiet about something....maybe i am getting all het up about nothing, but i cant even google bone scan for fear of what it tells me. is there anyone there that can put my mind at ease ? look forward to hearing from someone, take care, Sally.xx :?

Hi
I understand your concern. They may called you in quickly because they had had a slot free. I don't know much about bone scans but at least you'll know why/what has been causing you so much pain.
Please let us know what happens.
I'll keep everything crossed for you.
With regards
Sharmaine

Hi,
I agree with Sharmaine they may have had a cancellation. I haven't had one but my aunt did they are much like the MRI I think but they can assess bone density and diagnose osteoperosis.
Good luck.

Hi Sally
I had a bone scan (DEXA scan) back in July, it does check bone density - I discovered I had osteoporosis of the spine. No big deal these days really, just another med to take, Strontium Ranelate in my case, but there are lots of meds and it's very treatable now.
I will be checked again in two years time.

Hi Sally
I have just googled bone scan. Have you been given any details about the procedure? This would usually have been in the letter you would have received, but obviously there will not be one as you are going tomorrow. I believe it is done in two parts. This is just my understanding from reading about it just now. I am sure the procedure is nothing to worry about and at least you are being seen quickly whether it is a cancellation or not.
If you have any questions and your appointment is not too early tomorrow you could always call them with any questions you may have. This is a very reasonable request, should you wish to do so.
I wish you well tomorrow,
Luv

Hi Sally
Don't panic, like the others have said it could be a cancellation. Is it in the nuclear medicine dept? If it is I had one yesterday and apart from the bed only being about 15ins wide and the usual having to stay in one position it's a normal scan. The other bone density scan, had that last year to check osteoporosis is the same sort of thing again. I think these are better than a normal scan because you don't have to have a cannular put in for the dye. The blood and urine tests you had done probably wouldn't be back so soon so again try not to worry.

Hi I also agree with the others, it could well be a cancellation at this time of year with flu and what have you. I know these things do make our minds go round like an out of control roller coaster. Try to rest and tomorrow you will be able to ask questions.

can i just thank you all for your replies, i knew you'd all come through and help, to be honest, it never even occured that it might be a cancellation...my panic was the speed that the appointment came through and me being me i went into overdrive of what it "might be could be and IS" if you see what i mean.
thanks again one and all. my appointment is 11am to be injected with stuff and then to come back at 2pm for the scan, trouble is i dont have an appointment with the consultant for the results until 19th nov....SO MORE PANIC !!!! no not really !!
i will post on here later to let you all know how it went.
catch you all later you lovely lot.

hi Pennie, well it wasnt as scary as i imagined ! fed up of going to the loo as i had to drink loads of fluid to push this stuff round my system. it was weird seeing your skeleton appear on a screen tho'! i find out the results and what action they are taking on the 19th Nov. The Dr gave me 3 stickers for being a "brave girl" bless him, he had run out of lolly pops !!
i will let you know what the results are when i get them, hopefully everything will be ok and all i'll need is another hip replacement.
take care and have a great weekend.
lots of love Sally.xxx0 -

Glad it wasn't too bad, did you have the drink that tastes like pernoid? I think that's the nicest. Let us know about your appointment with consultant.
