Been to hosp today. I was given two injections of steroids - one in my wrist and one in the unfortunate stuck out finger. I was given a wrist splint and going to have insoles fitted plus scan on my foot.
Really feel i'm getting somewhere after such a long time. Keeping me on Hydro for another 3 mths to see if will work by then.

One thing though someone said that if I ware the splint while driving I would not be insured. Is this true? Never crossed my mind to inform insurance company that i have RA. At the moment I can drive without needing splints.

    Hi Irene

I was wondering how you got on today.

Pleased to hear you feel you're getting somewhere - hope the steroids start working ASAP for you. And it might give the other meds chance to start working for you too.

Interesting about driving with splints - I suppose only your insurance company would have the answer to that one. I found I couldn't drive with mine anyway, because of the metal bits in them - too restricting. Let's hope you won't need to use them for driving.

Thanks Lynn, Kind of you to reply. Hope the steroids kick in within the next few days. I can see what you mean about the splints. So it might not matter re: insurance. Hope u are still feeling OK.

    Hi Irene

Hope the injections kick in soon, are you supposed to rest for a few days? I googled the splint and insurance and they all say tell your insurance company to be safe.

    Love

Hi, I have splints, and I was told not to drive with them on. I did try once, but I had to pull over and take them off, as I didn't feel safe. My splint had a metal bar in the palm and came up to my knuckles, so the steering wheel feels out of control.

    Hi
How are you feeling? a bit sore I bet. I cringed abit when I read where you were having the injections. The wrist one was not too bad,but the finger, ouch.
I hope you will find some relief after the bruising has gone. Just out of interest, did you just get some local anesthetic like me or general? So many NHSs have their own ways of doing it, I would be interested.

I had my left hip done yesterday, but he didn't look at my right. I think we ran out of time.

Thanks everyone, kind of you all to reply. I have rested my hand since yesterday. Nice to be waited on by hubby. He always there for me when I'm bit down. I tried on the splint tonight and there is no way I could drive with it, but i think it will save some oche's when doing house work. It was a local when had injection. Glad I did'nt know what was coming! Not too bad. Then insult to injury had to have blood taken. I hope I get my finger back as it's been a year since it started. I suppose I just got used to it, as you do.

Thanks again, You are real Stars.
    Irene.

I have driven with my hand in plaster after breaking my thumb and was fine. I did check with my insurance company and they said so long as the cast didn't cause any problems for me I was ok to drive. It was my right hand and I have an automatic so for me it wasn't a problem. I would however ask you insurance company about it. i don't think you have to say you have RA but ask about the splints saying that you can take them off. Many ppl have splints short term for things like RSI and carpel tunnel so I wouldn't mention RA.

I hope the splints help you and that the joints calm down soon.
    Take care
