Had a sore throat for last 36 hours.....
Asked pharmacist yesterday (as I'm on MTX) for suggestions..
She suggested Lozenges containing Dequalinium Chloride..
Been taking them since, but to no avail...

Any suggestions????

Cheers.........Rob x

I've used difflam spray when my throat is sore, it numbs it. You can also buy it as a mouth wash. Worth a try.
Hope you feel better soon but if you're not any better by monday I'd see your GP.

Hi Rob,ive got the dreaded lurgy too.
started with a sore throat then developed the full blown cold.
    had this since last monday.
some1 advised gurgling TCP  ,but i didnt fancy that,I brought some antiseptic lozenges.Didnt help much.
The only other advise i can give is if your temperature is up,paracetamols keep your temp, down.
Hope your not getting the forum cold,as it does tak some shaking off.
    Take care & keep warm,debs

    Hi Rob,
A few drops of tea tree oil in some water and gargled with usually stops a sore throat in its tracks for me, although this is at the very first sign of it. It may still work for you. Best wishes Diane.

    Hi

Sorry to hear about your sore throat. You may have an infection if it lasts more than 3 days. My mother always made us gargle with a salted water mix (half teaspoon salt in a small glass of warm water) when we had sore throats.

    Hope it gets better soon.

Hi, Sorry you'r under the weather! :( I like sucking any type of boiled sweet, they seem to do the same job and keep my throught from getting too dry, or Soothers are pleasent and have a slight methol effect to help keep the air ways clear! I hope you soon feel better, if not it may be an infection, which needs anti-biotics to clear it. Keep warm and have plenty fluids. Take care, love Sue

For a sore throat I always have Grays Herbal Tablets. They have been around for years and are a sort of cough sweet, but they do taste very nice :) I just keep sucking one after the other and they really do help.

Also, for colds etc, I like a cup of boiling hot lemon tea made with real lemons, sweetened with honey. OR just add a slice of lemon to a cup of hot water, honey and a nice shot of whisky - it really warms you up and is especially good as a bedtime drink.

As you are on MTX and have a sore throat that is not goin gaway have you seen your GP for a blood test?

If I get a sore throat I usually ring up and they often ask me to go in for a FBC blood test to check that it is not a side effect of the MTX and that I am fighting the infection ok. I usually get to miss the next dose of MTX too :( unless the bloods come back ok. The gp often asks them to ring the results through the same day.

hope it goest quickly for you and that everything is ok.

    Hi Rob,

I get a sore throat with my RA when it's in flare mode - the bigger the flare the more my throat is sore. Nothing they can do about it except to get your arthritis under control.

This has happened right from the onset of my RA and the doctors then didn't connect it.

I realised in the end when it never developed into anything - it can even be a forewarning of a flare for me.

Do you think this could be what you're experiencing - especially with your shoulders etc. being painful?

Went to GP this morning...............I've also run short of Dihydrocodeine.......Got my prescription for that sorted.

He looked at the back of my throat, said "yuck thats looks grotty".

I mentioned MTX, he then looked on his computer for a suitable anti-biotic.

Got some, but I was a little surprised when he said he hadn't realised how limited his options were, where MTX was concerned...Is it really that evil??????

There are some antibiotics that you can't have when Methotrexate, my GP has it on big letters on the screen every time he access's my records. This patient is on Methotrexate. :D
Glad to hear you've seen yours Roberts and have been started on something, hope it knocks it on the head and you feel better soon.

    hope you soon feel better.
