Ooh, I'm so nervous about my orthopaedic aqppointment on Tuesday I don't know what to do with myself! Have written down all the reasons why as far as I'm concerned they should fuse my toe, but what I'm going to do if they say no I don't know! It's been so bad these last few weeks I don't know how I will keep managing if they refuse again!!

oh josie i really hope they do liten and do it, it's a horrible thing having to almost fight for something that you obviously need, i had the same situation yrs back when the oa in my hip was so bad but i kept getting told i was to young for a hip replacement, thank goodness a consultant actually listened to me a got me referred to a surgeon that could and did help me.
ok, so i had a few problems after the op but basically my hip was so much better after the op and now it's near perfect, shame about the rest of me!!!
sorry, i digress!!!! good luck and fingers crossed you get the fusion done soon.

Hi Josie,
I really hope it goes well for you and its about time they helped you. If he does say no ask him why...... I had my toes fused at 24 so don't let him say cus your too young! They did 4 of mine back then and I reckon you have to use the pain and how its effecting you tack if he says no. Try not to get emotional and just ask him why he wont, and raise the fact you need a easier time where your feet are concerned.
I will be thinking of you and I really wish you luck. Luv and a ((( ))) Cris x0 -
Just wanted to add my support to everyone elses and wish you good luck for tuesday. You've done right to write things down, just take deep breaths and tell it straight. Try to get across how much pain you are in and that you are prepared for your op and want it sooner rather than later Have you anyone to go with you for a little support?
good luck

Hello
I hope that all goes well for you. I can understand the nerves as I feel nervous when I go to the hospital, but try and relax a bit! I know, easier said than done! Love Sue0 -
Hi Josie
I wish you all the best with your appointment. I can well understand how you are becoming nervous especially when you are sort of "fighting" for an operation.
If he refuses then I presume you have to ask him to give you all the reasons why and also ask him how he suggests you continue getting on with your life.
You could get a second opinion, if he is adamantly against performing the operation for you.

I hear bells ringing for me - at my last rheumy appointment I was terrified I wouldn't be listened to/understood/believed and I agonised about it for weeks. When I got there my BP was so high that nurse did a double-take and then asked if I was nervous. It must have been bad (I didn't ask) because as soon as she could she came and sat beside me and tried to calm me down.
It was a brilliant appointment :!: :!:
I came away so relieved and satisfied with the way it had all gone.
Hope it's the same for you.

Hi Josie
Good luck with your appointment on Tuesday. You know your body and the pain you have so I really hope the ortho listens to you. As Elna said if not ask why.

Hi, here's what happened (will try to keep it brief - was there a long time!) He did a new xray which shows more deterioration since April but he is still not 100% convinced on the fusion (they've had people with legal issues I think, reading between the lines) so we've reached an arrangement - he is going to do a cheilectomy(??!!) and remove some of the bone-at best this will buy me some time before a fusion becomes inevitable, although he stressed it isn't cured and will keep deteriorating, at worst it will do very little but won't make it any worse and he will then fuse it knowing he has done absolutely everything else he could do first! I'm happy enough with that - don't know why he's never suggested it before mind you! I did put my point across very strongly mind you! Am now shattered from the anticipation and stress I think - off to have a dig round on the internet for info! J x0

Hi
I am glad that your appointment seems to have gone well. I am pleased that you have been offered a procedure which `may` help, and if it doesn`t you still have the fusion as an option too.
Hope you have a more relaxed evening!

Hi Josie
Thanks for the feedback and to know that you were pleased with the outcome of your appointment. Good for you. At least you know that the consultant will have done all that is possible, before he goes ahead with the fusion. Hopefully the procedure he is going to do will be beneficial to you for some time.
Take care and I am relieved that you were happy, if that is the right word, with the outcome of your consultation with him today.

So glad the outcome was satisfactory for you! I bet you feel sooooo relieved to have it over with.

Thanks for your replies. Yesterday was just relieved to be getting somewhere - now the penny has dropped about what I may have let myself in for! Am shattered too!!0

I'm not surprised you're exhausted. Glad to hear it went ok for you, at least you were well prepared. Have they given you any idea of how long you'll have to wait for the op now?
rita0 -
Hi, Thats a really good outcome for you! If he does the operation he thinks is best, and it quickly becomes a problem then the fusion will, as you say, be the only thing left to do. On the other hand this smaller op may buy you quite a bit more time. So the very best of good luck for the treatment, and getting rid of some of the pain.

Thankyou, yes I am pleased to have got somewhere, and I do have faith that the consultant has my best interests at heart. He said his list is currently about 20 weeks, which by my calculations makes it April-ish?? Seems a long time to wait when am in pain, but on the other hand I may be wishing for it not to be happening in a few months!! :shock:0

Good, I'm glad things went well. Waiting is always the worst part with these things. You play through all sorts of things in your mind, until you can't think straight! You need to rest now, you must be very tired! Love Sue0
