hi i never thought i would be glad to wake in the night to go to the toilet. but truth told when i have to get up in the night go down stairs through the kitchen to the bathroom, i find that in the morning i am not so stiff. what worries me is when i have to put the heavy quilt on the bed as we do not have centeral heating i think the weight is going to cause problems with my legs and feet . has any one got any tips???

    Hi Val

That does make sense in a weird way :) Have you thought about an electic underblanket for winter instead of your heavy quilt. I was the same and couldn't stand the weight but the blanket works well and it's dual controlled so hubby can turn his side down. With it being an unerblanket you don't have the weight either.

I have the same trouble as you do and I was recently moaning about it to my mother (she has neuropathic pain in her leg from a spinal injury). She suggested that I tuck the quilt under the bottom of the mattress and leave plenty of slack at the bottom. The weight that pulls down by hanging over the edge isn't there as the quilt is now tucked in. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it very well, I'd be better drawing it! Apparently it's even better if you have a foot post to drape it over as well.

I haven't been able to try this as my mattress is too big and I can't tuck mine in but my mother swears by it. I'm simply wearing socks to bed and not having the covers over my feet.

Hi Val, like Cathyg, I wear socks to bed and have my feet outside the duvet. I can't bear my feet covered up for some reason - been like that for ever.

Our winter duvet is not only down, but it's a super king size, I think it helps if the duvet is one size larger than usual as there's more leeway, if you see what I mean.

    Hi Val

Ladt year I ordered an goose feather matress, it's heaven, you lie on that.

Then I thought what if the gas went off? So I invested in to Goose down duvet. QVC.

It is like sleeping on a marshmellow. order the next size up and you will be warm all around you.

It would not be heavy for you at all. If you founf it slighlty heavier put a pillow at the bottom of your bed but not on the edge get it inside. That should give you just enough weight off you Val

    Hi
I put my winter quilt on the bed last week. My husband normally makes sure I'm settled. I have OA in both knees so it's a bit of a performance getting in and out of bed. Lately my arms have been affected and I don't seem to have the strength to do a lot of things.
I've got a bed lever that helps when I have to get up in the middle of the night for the toilet. The Occupational Therapist supplied this.

I was looking at some disability aids on the website and they sell something that looks like a cage to keep bedding off limbs. Maybe your OT can help.
