My sister has worked all her life, and cares for me when shes at home, and never gets paid for it.
Anyway she has started getting arthritis in her foot, so she saw a specialist and he said she had an abnormal bone growth inside her foot and it needs to be taken out... anyway she is having surgery in December and will need to keep off her foot and rest for 8 weeks. But just before the diagnosis she was made redundant, so she went to jobcentre explained about her surgery and they told her she had to sign on ESA, she did...then she has to go to a job interview on how to get back into work....that is not a problem my sister will have, she loves to work, it keeps her sane, (we lost a brother to murder) so working stops her from dwelling on it as she suffers really bad depression and black moods. She was livid to be called for such an interview, then she had to go to have a medical, we are now waiting the results, but the lady at the job interview expects her to be knocked off ESA and told her to appeal.
Why doesn't the government pick on drug addicts, make them go for job interviews, make them stop taking drugs instead of stopping adults smoking??? and people with genuine disabilities or injuries going through all this pointless farce. The whole system stinks.
I'm waiting for my letter, I wonder what job they will find for me?

    Hi
I'm sorry to hear about your sister's problems. She must be in some pain with her foot. They won't allow her to return to work surely until she has recovered from the surgery on her ankle? The medical is routine for all applicants and so are the 6 or so interviews afterwards. If she isn't well enough to work then they can't force her to go if her doctor signs her off. I didn't think the decision for ESA lies with the lady from the job centre - it depends on the outcome of her medical. She's had a double blow being made reduntant must be tough.

I agree with you claiming ESA seems a bit of minefield at the moment.

I hope your sister's operation goes well and she's allowed to recover fully before finding employment.

I think you just have to go through the motions, medical, appeal etc.
They are really making it an assault course in order to qualify for ESA, I am not sure why, but it is important to keep fighting.Never give up.
I wish you and your sister well as you have been through so much already.
    Best wishes
    Elizabeth

Sorry if I am asking a silly question, but it has occurred to me to just sign on for job seekers and when they ask how it's going just keep saying I'm not well enough for an interview (I've missed 3 while in hospital) or I can't find a job that fits my requirements. Is this even possible or are we once again discriminated against and forced into this farce of a system? I haven't applied for ESA simply because i can't face all the hurdles but I did wonder if i should ask about job seekers as everyone seems to be able to get that.

IT MAKES YOU SICK! :x WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON, DOES ANYONE EVER GET ESA ON THE FIRST VISIT. I really doubt it, unless you're wheeled in on life support. Are they trying to make jobs for them selves? Surely the money could be better spent on training people who want and are well enough to go back to the workplace.

I'm so very sorry for you and your sister its the last thing you need now. I do hope that she is able to get it on appeal, seems a lot of people do. Love Sue
