Well I suppose I should ask, but didn't really want to intrude, does any one take this while suffering with severe atrial fibrillation and angina.
The reason I ask is because the medication for that lowers my heart rate to around 40-45 bpm, affects the thyroid and liver. Not only does it cause nausea and fainting it doesn't go well with high doses of Tramadol and diazepam.
Another drug, especially one that blocks signals to the brain might just mask my other condition putting me at risk.0 -
Hi Donboon,
I don't take gabapentin but I do swear by pregabalin and its the same family. It can raise your bp not lower it. Prior to taking them I was not too good now I get by
I also didn't have much success with Neuro's........ In fact this one down here I will never see again even if my life depended on it...... He was so arrogant and apparently the nerve damage in my back and to my eyes are not his dept! To that I say Good!!
Just hang in there cus the pain clinic doctor explained that when you have long term pain your body becomes more sensitive t it and thats what the pregabalin stop for me. Take care and Hi to the forum, Cris0 -
Thanks for that Chris. Just the kind of thing i need to know.
My drugs are designed to lower blood pressure, not that I've ever had a problem with that.
I'll put that brand in the hat and ask my GP on Monday.
Amongst all those taking this Med, has anyone ever looked at what other people take OUTSIDE of the UK?
It's just that I don't trust the Meds we are prescribed here; take Celebrex, Vioxx and Ibuprofen for example. They’ve all caused me serious damage but no one takes responsibility.
Just thought I’d ask in case there is a well know drug that is available and preferred.0 -
Hi Donboon
I take Gabapentin, for phantom pain and chronic nerve pain. It has helped me no end.
I nearly kissed the doctor when it began to work after so many years of being in agony.
I do take other meds though oxynorm,Oxycontin, amitriptyline

Hi,i also take Gabapentin along with Tramodol,Diclofenic, amtripyline & Oramorph for break through pain. This combination works well for me.
Ive had over 2 yrs on a combination that wasnt doing anything for the pain. Also had patches & a few over drugs that just were useless.
The Gabapentin have knocked out most of the nerve pain & given me some of my life back.
Just to be able to sit comfortably in a chair & sleep through the night to me is Bliss.
I really hope you can get the same results as me from the Gabapentins.
ive also got the opion of the pregabalins if the Gabapentins fail.
have you been to a pain clinic,if not it maybe worth asking for a referal as my consultant was brilliant.
Hope thats some help to you,

The only one who can answer a question like that is your doctors. We can help and offer support, but none of us are in a position to answer a question like that, involving your heart.
Sorry if you are a bit dissapointed, but we are only members with arthritis.

Oh, Trisher, was he nice, young and good looking, your GP?
The answer to the question, now. This is something for the doctors treating you. We are just ordinary people and don't have the knowledge. I'm sure if you go to your GP and explain what and why you want to know the information, they will help you.
Good luck in your search for an effective treatment.

Thank you all for your personal advice. I wasn't asking for any medical advice just how it performed for you personally. Some drugs work well for most and this one seems to hit the spot with many. It was worth asking if anyone else had heart problems in addition to their arthritis in which case their advice would be welcome also.
I’m seeing my GP tomorrow so I'll ask him. Over the years he has become very friendly, hand shake etc every time we meet, but it wasn't always like that. Several years ago I used to get pneumonia every winter then one year I contracted Legionella. It was caused by a badly serviced Gerberit toilet. Unfortunately my GP didn't know the signs and put it down to pneumonia again. After a month I was nearly dead. Finally he called an ambulance and the hospital treated me. I think he was thoroughly shocked and felt guilty but ever since he's been very kind and helpful.
As to pain clinic, yep been there including, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, psychologist and drugs. Unfortunately none of it helped and it doesn’t make matters any easier when you’re consultant has it fixed in their mind that all pain is curable provided you don’t think about it. I’ve learnt to cope and that becomes highly apparent when I take something that kills the pain for just a short while. I can only describe it as being invited through the pearly gates for a quick peek. What I don’t want to do get stuck on something that helps me get there for a longer vacation.0 -
