How awful for you both! I know MTX can cause nausea etc but would be very cautious about making any suggestions where a child is involved.........best to contact your GP for advice or if out of hours and you're worried get in touch with NHS 24. let us know how your daughter is though; will be thinking about you. lol Irisx

HI - so sorry to hear that your daughter is feeling so bad. I know how horrid it can be when you first start on MTX but I have found that it does get better as your body adjusts. If it gets really bad then you should see the GP as they may have something that could help her.

Does your daughter like ginger? if so I have found that eating ginger biscuits and crystallised ginger help me to feel less sick.

SOmething else that I have learned is that the more I think about it the more I feel sick, so keeping my mind occupied helps me to ignore it when it is bad. Not sure how you can do that with one so young but maybe board games so that they don't need a lot of energy, or even simple puzzles & colouring?

    good luck!

Hi, i'm really sorry to hear this. I was taking methotrexate from age 6 onwards, hearing it from a parents perpective does make me realise just how much it must've affected my parents. I used to be sick everyweek with the tablets and injections, and my parents would sit there every week trying to make me not be sick. I used to think I was doing something really wrong and letting my parents down by being sick, but now I realise they were just worried and trying to make me better.

There are a million and one anti sickness medicenes out there, mention the sickness to the consultant/gp and they will probabally perscribe some. It is really hard, but i'm glad looking back my parents didn't give up and tried to stop me feeling sorry for myself and keeping postive. I'm sure I begged to not have to take it quite a few times when I was younger which must have made them feel awful. I'm sixteen now and my joints are in pretty good condition, so it was deffinatly worth it. Remember if it gets too bad for her there is always other medications to try. Just because one doesn't suit doesn't mean they all won't :) Good luck, let us know how you get on?

    Lots of love,
    Katherine x

Hi, sorry to read about your daughter, I have MXT injections of 20mg, I find for me that if I do them after food in the evening it dosen't cause me much sickness, I hope this helps, the gp might give her some medicine to help her feel less sick, I hope that you can get this sorted out and that the MXT helps her love Jaspercatxx

The poor little darling, it's so awful to watch a child being sick. As has been said, I'd see your Daughter's GP and get some anti sickness medicine. It sounds like a really good idea to give it about an hour before bed time too. Worth a try perhaps. Are there any networks where you can get special help with children? Very best of luck

ohh, I'm so sorry for both of you. I think the others have all have given you the only possible answer, to talk to your GP. Is she able to drink some fluids? I hope she soon feels better. Love Sue

    Poor little thing!
I dont know if it will help your daughter but I recently discovered scrambled eggs on toast help with the sickness. For 4 weeks I did not feel sick at all after having scrambled eggs and toast, last 2 weeks I missed having the eggs and toast before Methotrexate and felt awful again .I am on tablets as when I tried injections I didnt feel any better so went back on tabs this summer.Take the eggs at least 30 mins before the MTX that is what I do. Anything is worth a try and I only found out by accident as I was trying to lose weight and eggs fill you up!However only one other person on the forum has said it works for them too so it may just be a coincedence or because we take tablets and not injections.
    Best wishes
