Hi
I've been miserable these past few days. My joints have been painful. Both knees are so bad now that even say trying to walk around the supermarket with my crutches is proving too much. The Occupational Therapist called around today and he commented that my mobility had deteriorated since he saw me six weeks ago. As I can't get into see my GP until 31 December he's given me a referral for a wheelchair which I'll collect next week.
I can get about at home with my stick/crutches but will have to use the wheelchair when I'm out. I had hoped that it wouldn't come to this..... but can't do very much about it. I can't venture out on my own . I'm also having trouble getting in and out of the car - getting my legs in is a problem. Everything seems to be getting more and more difficult.
I can't wait until I have my first TKR. Sorry about the miserable posting!!! I'm a woman who likes to get on with things and being independant. Now I have to ask for help - it's a new learning experience for me!!! I'm sure my sense of humour will return tomorrow.

Hi Sharmaine
I can understand why you are feeling miserable, and I really feel for you. Do you know when your first TKR is going to be? I do hope it won't be too long for you. In the meantime, don't worry about having a moan on here. We understand.

Hi Sharmaine, I sorry to see your suffering.( im not much better )
Its the 1 road that im worried about too.
My housing officer has told me to get referal to OT so we can get the ball rolling for a downstairs toilet to be built.
Im trying to put things off but know in my own mind i have to go down that road for my own health.
Im struggling around on my crutches & most of the time i dont want to go out. I also need to get a stick for inside for the bad days (not many good left )
I really feel for you,at least your getting a chair so you can get out & about & its not gonna be the struggle it has been.
I think its just the getting used too bit thats hard.
You look after your self.

Hi Chris, Debs and Joan
Feeling a bit better today. I took 3 amytriptlines last night and slept until 11.30 am. I'm going to rest today. The house looks like a tip but hopefully I'll be able to potter around and tidy up on the weekend when hubby is around to help. I'm going to sit on my perching stool and do a little bit of ironing that way I won't feel so useless.
My OT has been marvelous and the railings in and outside of the house have been such a help. Luckily we have a downstairs loo and the raised toilet seats have been a godsend as well as other bits and pieces they've put in place. I'm glad it's done before I go into hospital. for my first TKR. I'm hoping it will be in January. I'll go tomorrow if they 'phoned! The wheelchair will be a great help and I won't be so anxious when we go out.
I hope you guys have a good weekend. Are you doing anything? My in-laws are coming over on Sunday. My hubby is going to cook.
Thanks for your kind remarks.

Hi Sharmaine
Just popping in to see how you are doing. Glad you are feeling a bit better today after a good rest and sound so positive. I realise how lucky I am to still be able to do my part time jobs though it is a real struggle at times, I shall hang on as long as I can.
I tend to do as little as possible on my days off, like todayin an effort to gather up as many spoons as I can. Who cares about an untidy house, it's is all my own doing so I can't blame anyone else for it. :? Have been watching the new Michael McIntyre DVD this morning he is so funny.
Hope you make time to be nice to yourself too and have a good weekend.
Take care

Hi Chris
I've turned a blind eye to the house today. But if the in-laws are coming I'll have to get the duster out! I bought 3 blouses and a pair of trousers today online (that cheered me up). I'm ok for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day! I'm going to have my eyebrows waxed and a pedicure tomorrow. I haven't been able to do my own toes for about 5 years!!!
Just bought a few pressies for my hubby online - he wanted some music books, but I've got him a few other treats - he likes the odd cigar and nice chocolates! That's the Christmas shopping just about done and dusted. Only food bits to get and I'll probably do most of that online. I'm hoping I feel strong and energetic next week so I can make a Christmas pudding. Better late than never.
I hope you have a good weekend.

Hi Sharmain
I'm glad you are getting a wheelchair. You can get a simple adaption for your wheelchair.
It goes on the back. at the bottom and then you can take your crutches with you.
If you fancy a bit of walking where not too many peeps around, then put the cruthches back and you can be wheeled around.
They should be able to put that on for you, ask them if they can do it. I had one on my wheelchair, when i could not walk anymore I use it for my umbrella.

Hi Chris and Trisher
Lovely to hear from you both and I hope you are ok. That's a great idea Trisher and I'll ask them to do that. I'll be able to enjoy some fresh air and a day out if I'm in the wheelchair. I went out last Saturday with OH and was exhuasted from the cruthes. I think that's why I felt so rotten all week.
We're going to pick up the wheelchair next week.
OH is helping me do the housework today.
Have a good weekend.

Hi Sharmaine
I'm sorry you've been having a rough few days. My knee is only early stage OA but I can empathise with the whole knee pain thing. Online shopping definitely is a boost - I bought a new coat and a new dressing gown this week (excitement!!!) and next week plan a facial as a relaxing chill out time. My knee is much worse when its cold and damp so I'm looking forward to Spring - I keep suggesting to my husband we relocate to the Maldives but it hasn't worked yet!!. I hope you're smiling today and looking after yourself.

Hi, I'm sorry that you feel so bad at the moment. This weather dosn't help much, does it? When you get your chair, at least, you will be able to enjoy time with friends and family sometimes and get some fresh air! Too fresh for me at the moment! Take care, love Sue0

Hi Sue, Lottie and friends
Bloomin - knee (it used to be the better one) has been killing me today - it almost feels as if the thigh bone has fused with my lower leg bone or got stuck or something. I'm hoping it'll sort itself out soon - I'm trying not to let it get me down.
Yes, I'm looking forward to getting the wheelchair - I'll be able to look around the shops for longer!!!
I hope you guys are well.
Take care and enjoy the weekend. The weather is awful again and I'm sure it doesn't help.

Hi Cris
Do you have your op on the 31st? I hope it goes well. I keep hoping there'll be something in the post for me - but I haven't heard anything from the hospital since my letter 3 weeks ago saying it'll be 15 -18 weeks. I hope they haven't forgotten me!!! What music did you download?
We're having a take away tonight cod and chips in front of the tv - I'm not in the frame of mind to cook and neither is my OH.
Lovely to hear from you.
