Hi everyone
I am going for my pre-op tomorrow my op date is 5th January so pleased to get this moving. :D I had lots of forms to get ready and still have a few things to do. The op is to have 2 discs removed in my neck and for it to be fused together done a lot of reading up and know all pit fools and risks that i can find and all good things too which outwiegh risks. :) so although bit scarey i am looking foward to it. :) Woke up today and felt bit unwell but had to do somethings so did them and was feeling so unwell when came back i went back to have a rest and fell asleep big mistake  when i woke up i was in such pain didnt know what to do with myself you all know that feeling i am sure :( went down and as soon as my husband saw me he sent me back up got the concocksion of pain killers and meds and made me something to eat and drink and proped up the bits that hurt the most and here i have been since starting to feel bit better now and not so much like chopping off bits to stop the pain. but i am bit worried how i will be in hospital being imobilized for a while and that my arther my deside to kick in but i surpose they are dealing with this all the time any way better go as running out of room hope you are all feeling ok today and hugs to everyone who is not  CB

    Hi China Blue

I had my pre assessment last week. You may also see the doctor who is doing it. \he will tell you what the plan is.

Write down any worries or questions you would like answerd. I gave my list that I wrote down, mine is my fingers so it is not a big op as I have had.

Tell them about what aids you may need to help you dress, wash, how many pillows, do you have a special bed( I did, and when I went in the bed that I needed was there, waiting.)

Good luck on your op, I will wait to see your posts when you are at home.

    Dear Chinablue

I just wanted to wish you all the best with the operation and of course the pre-op beforehand. If you put everyone in the picture about your "arthur" and your fears about being immobilised when in hospital and this not being too good an idea for you with all you aches and pains they will do their best for you. Be honest with them, because the medics and nurses will not know if you do not tell them. They will do their unmost to make you as comfortable as possible and all will be well.

If you ask at the pre op assessment about taking in your favourite pillow or whatever I am sure they will allow you to do so. Label well and look after these things though while you are there!!

You have waited a long time for all this and had done all the right things with reading up and being knowledgeable about the procedure and so on.

You are a brave soldier and from the sounds of it you have a caring husband which makes everything much easier. Please do keep in touch with us all here as and when you are able.

    Love
    Elna x(())

Hr, I'm sorry that you have been feeling so unwell, but glad that after such careful, loving nursing, you are feeling a bit better.

Just to wish you good luck for tomorrow. I'm sure that you will be able to chat about your worries with someone who will be able to help you. They must be used to the sort of problems that arther gives you and have ways of doing things. Good luck for tomorrow. Love Sue

Hi everyone well i have had my pre op appointment it all went realy well i was given lots of info and all the risks were explained carefully to me. They even showed me my mri scans which took me by surprize didn't relize until i saw them just how serious this is the discs are bulging out into the spinal cord and need removing to stop any further damage. I did ask if they were any altinatives and the doc told me that they were none and that i needed this opereration or thing could get much worse for me. I had already desided that i was going for it anyway, as you all know very well without me telling you we will all do what ever it takes to stop at least some of the pain we go through. So I am all set now and just have to wait until the 5th of jan. But what an afternoon saw about 5 different people and by the 4th was seeing double as was so exhusted and painful. My husband who has he's own problems and should not be driving yet as he has a wound on his foot which needs to heal had to drive us home as i was so bad. thank goodness for him dont know what i would do without him  anyway take care everone CB :D

    Hi there!
That's one hurdle over - pre-ops are nerve racking as you don't know what to expect, but glad you've got through that bit now.
I know everyone is different, but there was a lady on my ward who'd had this op & she was going home after only 5 days but I'm sure the nurses & physios will be totally understanding of your specific needs and will make sure you are Ok.
Enjoy your Christmas time & put it all out your mind (as much as poss) til then.
    Love Pennie X

    Hi China Blue,

I am glad it went well and just wanted to wish you all the luck for the op. If it helps to know I had a full spinal decompression over 20 years ago and it gave me back my life and my legs so it was so worth it. Yo take care and try not to worry. Luv Cris x
