Hi all, waiting for more tests!!! Wont know until March. Asked for help with sleeping, and was told only can give oromorph, but all I wanted was something like amtripolyne. If I go to GP can they prescribe it? My hips and neck and shoulder are so painful at night, and I have to be up at 5.45am to work.
Also had a bad day yesterday, and not too good today, everything ached, hot and sweaty, felt faint, stomach pains. Cant all be RA, so maybe it is mixed connective tissue disease/lupus. Did work ong hours due to one mum doing a course and having to travel a long way, 11 hours per day for 4 days.
My daughter says its all too much now, I expect she is right. Hope everyone doing ok

crikey does sound like work is just too much for you,do you have to work???Sometimes you just have to put your health first,i gave up my business in May of this year i was running myself into the ground. Its not easy being on benefits but its the only thing i can do for now while im learning to manage my illness.
Im on amytriptiline 25mg but it hasnt helped with my sleeping lately and im now taking lyrica as well but doc wont give me sleeping tablets as they are only a short term solution.
Dont run yourself into the ground its just not worth it.

Hi Jordan, my gp gives me Amitriptyline and I take 20mg. Sleep like a baby! Helps a lot with nerve pain as well, apparently. Worth seeing your gp and asking if they can prescribe.
Good luck, nothing worse than lack of sleep.

    Hi Jordan

I think you should see your GP and discuss the problems you have sleeping. I used to get up at 5.30 am for work as I had to commute - if I didn't leave home by 7.00 am I would be stuck in city traffic. I resigned from my job last May - glad I did because my mobility is pretty awful.

Your day is a long one especially if you're affected with arthur. Your daughter sounds very wise. My OH encouraged me to give up work because I was a physical wreck - at the time I wasn't sleeping at all.

I hope you find some relief - go and see your GP soon.

    With regards

I would definitely ask for the amitriptyline. I have a quality memory foam mattress topper 3 inches deep. Since i bought this it has helped me sleep a lot better. :D Brian.

    Hi Jordan

    PS
I agree with the others and would also suggest a memory foam mattress topper and pillows. When you have arthur being comfy is so important and we need our rest - it means we can cope with what the next day throws our way.
I hope your GP suggests amytriptiline it helps me a great deal especially at night.

Hello Hileena, The thing about memory foam is that it relieves the pressure points. I don,t know about army mattresses but maybe your o/h would go to a bed shop with you and try them out. I would add that inferior mattresses are a waste of money. Good Luck, Brian.

What the OT gave me years ago and it has hardly been used is a mattress covered with plastic??? every time you move it makes a noise LOL I have the same kind of cushion for the car and it is good...takes the pressure of my hips when pressing pedals etc but the mattress wasnt a success
Oh well......never mind Thanks for your reply

Just thought of another thing I want to ask about memory foam mattress. At an arthritis course we were told {not oficially} that they wern't much good because you made a dent in them and then couldnt turn or move during the night???? That came out in the course but not from the trainers.

    Hi Hileena,

We've just bought a memory foam mattress topper - cost £140 from Dreams. We tried the beds first from firm mattresses to soft ones to see which we found more comfortable. In the end we decided it would be cheaper just to take the topper as our mattress still has some life in it and we could see if we got on with it without investing hundreds of pounds.

We both find the memory foam topper brilliant - my husband doesn't have joint problems at all - it's extremely comfortable and is easy to turn over in bed. It also recovers it's shape - that's where the memory bit comes in I think.

If you do invest in a topper you have to have somewhere to put it for 12 hours before you sleep on it because it keeps remembering it was rolled up

The only downside as far as we can see is that we shall miss it when we go on holiday.

    Hi Jordan,

sounds like you may have reached a bit of a crossroads in getting the work/ life balance right? ':?' and from what you've said it's clear you are pushing yourself really really hard with the long hours, not sleeping properly and having such a lot of pain.

You're right to ask for Amitriptyline... it does help.. but so does getting enough rest and taking care of yourself.''

Only you know whether you can cut down on working hours but even if some small changes/ reduced hours could be made, that might make a difference?

take care..hope the pain settles...nerve pain can be excruciating so get the meds sorted. Iris x (sorry for sounding like a nagging parent) ''

Just want to say, gone from needing to get up every 10/15 minutes because R.A was affecting nerves near bladder and my lovely sister bought me a memory foam mattress and sleeping like a log almost. Turned it over however as it kept creeping up the bed. Anyway do shop around as I've seen some extortionate prices for these, mine was under £50 a few years ago so even allowing for inflation, do not be conned. I get annoyed that people are robbing people legally especially the elderly and disabled. They seem to think we have plenty noughts on our bank balance. How many have seen something advertised "suitable for elderly/disabled but similar/ same product elsewhere which is just as good or better with a big fat price tag
