Right I have probably posted a question similar to this so sorry if I am repeating myself, I went shopping yesterday and went in to Oxford on the park and ride, well started off ok but by half an hour later both knees were giving me real problems, my dilemma is do I put in for a blue badge and would I get one if I did, my big problem is I feel such a fraud as I’m still mobile but it’s so random if I’m able to get about reasonably well or not, and I must admit I could do with using one sometimes, on day’s when it’s bad I just don’t go into town due to the pain, I’ve been told though you have to be really bad to get one what’s you opinion on this.

Hi, speak to your gp, they have to sign the form. Explain your difficulties and see what they say and if they would support you.

    Hope this helps

After much persuasion from Family friends and I applied for one.

    Haven't heard yet......its been about 5-6 weeks..

GP said......well if you feel you're having a good day.......don't use the badge......On bad days.......use it...

Hell all those years of medical training to state the obvious......

    But she's absolutely right..

As most arthritis sufferers know we have our good and bad days that should not put us off applying for what we are entitled to. Do you receive the high rate mobility component of DLA if so give it a go for the blue badge and stuff what others think.Good Luck,Brian.

    Hi
Yes dont be silly...put them in...I felt like you.....I wasnt bad enough to warrant it until someone at a disability exhibition talked to me and persuaded me to put in for it and for DLA....I said no....but then thought why not......Like she said they wont give it to you if you arent entitled to it.
Got the blue badge but was refused DLA and a couple of weeks after I applied I was told I had to have a double hip replacement and I called the DLA and they said there was even less chance of getting it now that I was getting 2 new hips LOL But got the badge.

Sometimes putting in forms for something we need, we view as an admission of disability and needing help. We are always reluctant to admit to ourselves and others that we need help.

Use the badge when you have to and walk when you don't, its your choice.

i am the same got the blue badge but refused DLA (appealing). You should go for it because it does make a difference and helps so much even to go to the shops.

I'm in the same situation, I can walk OK most days but occasionally knee problems make it difficult so I applied for DLA on the advice of my rheumy nurse and got it after a home medical.

I don't know what the criteria is these days but if you find difficulty walking 100 metres that was the yard stick.

    Hi Guys,
I had my blue badge for a year before I got my DLA, in fact having the badge helped with the claim.
    Hope you get yours soon
