When my gallstones start playing up I get waves of severe pain running through and down my right shoulder. It almost always happens when I am lying down and my solution is to get up and drink a pint of water.

We all know I've got them, but they don't yet trouble me enough to have something done about them.

    Does this help?

    Hi Oneday,

I have a large Gall stone. Mine gives me indigestion, I start to feel sick, more often than not I'm sick.

The pain goes into my ribs on the right at the bottom it then radiates around the back. Also the pain goes up my chest in the front.

I'm in agony, sweating, shivering all at the same time.

The doctor can give you something for it as it may have become inflamed. He should send you for some tests. They take x rays, scans as well to see if it it big small or little ones.

If it is, you can have keyhole surgery. On the other hand you can just get one attack and no more.

    I hope that helps you.

    HI girls
thank you so much for your replies and the fact you havent had to have surgery!!
It started in september when i was already stressed out with work! The pain was on my side, sometimes like a stitch, or like burning, then it went around shoulders, then it was top of stomach. Also my bowels, which are generally ok,decided to shut up shop and not work at all. Bit gross, but all the usual feelings you get when they are working properly and stomach working etc just didnt happen.
I thought it could also be because i have scar tissue from a previous operation and this could maybe be stuck on bowel and causing problems but doctor says no. I dont entirely believe this though.
Had a scan yesterday and they said results at drs next week. so i think that sounds fast, is that normal time limit, does it mean somethng serious or does it mean it only takes seconds to type one word ie.normal.
if its gallstones, would rather leave it if poss, if not known, what was it?
p.s. when it started i felt like i had a temperature too and felt unwell.at night i felt like going to casulty but thought no,i dont want to wait 5 hours and have no checks to be sent home with a paracetamol

When you have had a scan, it is looked at by someone who is an expert and they really look over the scan.

Then the result goes to your GP.

I had to have blood tests, x rays the full works. Mine is a large stone that should be removed but I cannot have a GA so they cannot remove it.

If it is Gall Stones, your GP will tell and if they think it is you will be referral to a Consultant who will do more tests before he makes up his mind if he needs any more scans.

It is possible to have gallstones, nearly all people have them. They can come out the Gall Bladder by themselves. That could have happened, that is why a Consultant does these other tests again.

It could also be you will never get the pain back at all. Lots of people have one attack then no more.

Mine should come out but they cannot operate on me. If you do have it, nowadays it is done by keyhole surgery, I think you stay in hospital one night then home.

Try not to worry about it too much. As I have said most people have one bout then they never get it again. Another way is when you got the pain the stone came out and it has gone now.

A week for your results doesn't sound too quick, it's mostly done by computer now. Mine were located by ultrasound; at a guess I've had them for about 20 years now but as I said, they trouble me very little.

    Oneday,

My cast is white, i could not be bothered by the time they finished I just wanted my arm back.

I had to go to the fracture clinic the day after. Just to have my cast checked.

There was this boy, well black teenager he insisted in three colours. He had Red Green and Yellow. It must have been where he came from.

The staff had hung these rolls up as decorations it looked good.

Now to the lady, who is not really a Camel, have A nice Christmas.

love Trish xxx who hopes you don't cry again!!

    Hi Oneday,

I really don't know, I just thought it was his county of origin national flag.

It could well be what you said, but I did not think that much, he seemed a nice las though.

He must have had a very bad broken arm.

    Delboy

Do you think that, really

    Hey oneday,

don't worry too much even if you do have to have the op. I had my gallbladder removed 20 yrs ago (for a different reason) when it was by the old surgical method..and that wasn't too bad. better than suffering!

My niece had the keyhole surgery last year for gallstones and was in and out of hospital in 24rs , recovered really quickly and hasn't looked back.

hopefully you won't need the surgery but if you do it'll be ok.. Iris x

Thank you again for the replies. I have got more reassurance on here than trawling the internet. Its either too much info or not enough, never proper real life stuff like the replies here.
Its not so much the op i sort of worry of but I always think cos Ihave kids I cant be out of action as they need me or say someting goes wrong and they need me.
Then if its not gallstones, they wont know what it is and say,oh its nothing...but it cant be nothing.
