Throbbing Foot!

Spent the whole night awake because of throbbing pains around the ball/big toe joint of my right foot. Took paracetamol but that didn't make the slightest difference.

Also, despite it being god-knows how many degrees below freezing last night I was really hot and spent most of the night on top of the duvet!

Am having a nightmare with my feet just now. The Francenstein's Monster walk used to wear off after being up and about for half an hour, now it doesn't wear off at all!

Is there any other over the counter med I could take in times like this? I'm on Celebrex and my rheumy told me to avoid ibuprofen.

Am hopefully starting sulpha soon, but I know that it will be a good few months before I start feeling any effects from that.

Officially I have JIA but at aged 43 that's stretching it a bit so I just say I have RA when people ask!

i have suffered with the same thing, i used to lay in a warm bath with my feet taking turns resting on the cold tap, it helped a bit!
but now, the only thing that has really helped is the right shoes!
i was told to wear shoes with a sole in a rocker type shape, not flat or heals, but something like trainers but the toe end must go up a tiny bit, hence the rocker shape.
don't know if that will help at all, but i noticed a difference as before walking would reduce me to tears because pain was so bad.

    Thanks for your reply Suzter.

Did you take anything extra for the foot pain?

I wish I could blame a lifetime of teetering around on Manola Blanicks for this pain - have worn sensible comfy shoes all my life and look where it's got me!

    i know!
i wore dr martins, the most sensible footwear ever! but now i have to wear trainers, hmm, i'd rather be in my dr m's, but not comfy anymore.
as for painkillers, i'm sorry to say i didn't find anything that helped.

When i started having problems with my feet i bought a foot massager the type where you immerse your feet in warm water. I can not say for certain if this worked for me or my meds, nor can i say wether this will help you or make things worse. I still use mine as i get a nice warm and relaxing massage that has not made things worse for ME. Whatever you decide to do i hope you soon feel better. Take Care, Brian.[/url]

    Hi

Can you ring your Rheumy Clinic up, they should be there, see what they advise.

If you cannot do that, how about your GP? Could they help you, they might ring Rheumy up to inquire for you.

I hope you feel better soon

    Hi there,

I have rung my Rheumy who suggested sticking my feet in a bucket of ice! However, if I'm not that brave I could stick my foot through one of those ice cooler sleeves that people keep in their freezer.

I had admittedly walked 2 miles with best friend and 3 dogs, so have no-one else to blame but me!

One tip he gave me which might be of use to others is, if you know you're going to be on your feet a lot, slip Party Feet insoles into your shoes. I have seen those at Boots - they're for people who DO where killer heels. That will never be me but will stock up for future marathon dog walks!

Thanks for your help and support everyone,
