Do you feel stiff after resting?

I know people with OA often get stiff after periods of inactivity but if you have RA/inflammatory arthritis, do you notice it too? I was wondering it was a common symptom. :?: I'm very stiff when I wake up but I notice that if I sit for ages or take a nap during the day, I wake up very stiff too.

Hi princess
Unfortunately I think thats how it goes. I have oa and pa and it takes me a bit to get going as well. Never sure which is doing what but so wish both would just go away
They tell me its a balance between keeping it mobile and not clobbering it (a word my Rumo tends to use to me a lot) Hope you an find a balance and it backs off a bit for you. take care Cris0 -
I have JIA (at 43 years of age!) and the worst part of the day is getting out of bed in the morning. My feet are agony when I first stand up and both my arms refuse to straighten.
Am going to ask my husband for a bedpan this Xmas!0 -
Hi, I can't answer about RA as I have OA, but, the stiffness I get after rest is very intense, I have to be careful how I move or I can loose my balance when a leg gives way.
Before tramadol and amatriptylne, I used to wake up at about 3am and be in such pain from the stifness that I would have to get out of bed and do a few simple streching exercises and walk downstairs to the kitchen and back to bed, with a biscuit  When I get out of bed you can hear my spine clicking into place one bit after another! Its not too painful, just sore for a while!

The mornings are definitley the worst. I, sometimes, need help dressing myself. I've just noticed after a short nap or if I've been chilling on the sofa for ages, I'm very stiff and wasn't sure if it was common.0

Hi Princess
in a word, yes, it's a symptom of arthritis. I have had RA for 15 years and have had it all through, can't sit down for any length of time, terrible when I get up,chilling , reading are all challenges whilst sitting down.

Hi
I have OA and I'm stiff when I get out of bed; after sitting for long periods - it's impossible for me to stand in one place for for than 10seconds as this makes me stiff too.

Absolutely everytime.I refuse to go back to bed in the daytime because I feel so rubbish trying to back up again.I would rather sit down somewhereand work from there.Having made the effort to get washed, dressed and go through the pain I feel it is a step backwards if I go back to bed.
In the past I have felt too badto get up at all though and have just stayed in my jim jams only moving to go to the loo or sit up for a tea but they are not enjoyable days.
Best wishes

I feel rubbish too but I'm soooooo tired after work (I work mornings) and cannot function without a sleep in the afternoon.
Thank you for the replies. I'm glad it's not just me but, of course, sorry that you all suffer too.

[HIya
I have RA and I am the same, very stiff and painful in the mornings then if I sit and rest or stay in 1 position too long I stiffen up again. If I keep moving I can keep going but the minute I stop after moving for an extended period I am lucky if I can walk at all. If I have a busy day I pretty much need to stay at home and top up on serious pain relief the next day or two. Although right now my body isnt happy and I am spending alot of time crawling around on my knees and forearms as my ankles and feet are so painful I cant stand up. Hope things improve for you xxxThere are many things in life that will catch your eye, but only a few will catch your heart...pursue those. --Michael Nolan

Hi, yes I think that covers all of us!!! I have RA and definitely very stiff after a rest, thats why I have to keep going when working with the babies, if I stop it takes me ages to get going again. Its good to get a day off though, I have today, went out for lunch with OH, very civilised!! Back to normal tomorrow though x0
