Strictly Joan Dancing

Hi
In my youth, I was a good ballroom dancer, and used to go dancing most weekends. Then as time went on, the demands of work, marriage and motherhood meant that I gave it up. Plus the fact that my OH has two left feet, which didn't help. Neither did two arthritic knees!
Flash forward to today.............. I went to a Christmas lunch, given by Derbyshire CC 50+ Forum, of which I am a member. After the lunch there was dancing.
A young couple, both excellent dancers, were given the task of leading the dancing , and to my amazement, the young man picked me first to dance with him.
I told him that I hadn't danced in years, but undaunted, we began. Within seconds, it all came back to me, and it was as if time stood still. We glided our way effortlessly through a waltz, followed by a quick step and then a foxtrot.
The young man, ( Paul ), was charming, and complimented me on my dancing. He asked where I had learned to dance, and said he could tell that I had been well taught. At the end, he thanked me, and escorted me back to my seat.
Then I realised that something wonderful had happened! I hadn't noticed a single twinge of pain in my knees, and for a short time, I was 17 again :!:

Well good for you young Joan.........
My only dancing would have been in my 'Young Farmers Club' days....
Hell that a long time ago........
After one or two..........well several............actually a 'skinfull'......
We would commence the 'cocking of the legs'.....
Now a days....would, I'm sure be considered some sort of 'Pagan' dance....
Lots of lads.....and lassies, performing strange gyrations
Oh to be young again.........Ok maybe not...
So glad you had a good time Joan..

Hi Rob
I must say I haven't heard of the 'cocking of the legs' dance.
The mind boggles :!:
Amazingly, my knees don't ache today, which I thought they would. I think I should dance more often :!:

You may not of heard of 'The cocking of the legs', but you would have seen it..........mainly young men on the dance floor after too many pints............trying to impress the 'wimmen'..
Although I have occasionally seen young (and not so young ladies) try it....

Hi Rob
After I met my OH, we realised that we had been at many of the same dances/ parties, but had never met.
That was because he never danced, having two left feet, and mainly propped up the bar.
The 'cocking up the legs dance' is probably the only one he ever did, and even then only when he was completely sloshed :!:
No wonder my dancing days were over :!:

I always knew there was something you were holding back from us, Joan, it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for :-)
If you love dancing so much and it's done you good, why don't you take a look around and see if you can join a club? I know it's not quite the same thing, but I work with someone who goes line dancing on Tuesday nights...

Hi Nina
There is actually a club in my village, but who would be my partner :?:
Any offers :?: :?:

Great story Joan - I would LOVE to be able to dance a proper dance but can only boogie from all my 1980s nightclub festivals!. I love Strictly Come Dancing as they actually learn something so beautiful and elegant to watch.
Funny how distraction and proper enjoyment can sometimes make the pain just go away.
dancing must be like riding a bike.....you never forget!!
