    Hi Barbara

Yes a lot of us are on them. It can act as a pain killer. It is also used to relax you, if you are depressed also help you sleep.

Take it, it may help you not to feel so down, give you a bit of a lift. See how it makes you feel.

It can make you feel drowsy. Should be carteful if you drive ec

It's ok to ask here, you are new and don't know the ropes yet.

I've moved this over from Chit Chat and removed the duplicate topic you had set up.

Hope you get some more responses

    Hi
I'm on amitriptyline (3 at night) I take 2 about 9.00 pm and one just before bed. Amitriptyline is a powerful relaxant which relaxes your muscles and helps people with arthur to sleep better. The first time I took it - I slept until noon the following day! However, after nearly a year on them I wake up most mornings at 8.30 am. Before I was on amitriptyline I couldn't sleep because of painful and swollen joints. I have OA in both knees. I think it's wonderful.

It gives you a dry mouth and you may feel lethargic in the mornings.
Take a drink upstairs as you'll probably need a drink in the middle of the night.
