Is there anyone suffering from arthritis of the jaw? Does it calm down and flare up in intervals? Mine just came out of the blue and so far has lasted 6 months. I am to go back to the consultant in 2 months time to have another valuation.

My jaw often gets really stiff and i find it really difficult to open my mouth to eat. My rhmer nurse said it is stiff but they will keep an eye on it .. so it might be be RA but im not sure

I had pain in my jaw quite a few years ago and went to Doc who asked if I'd been chewing gum or toffees, I had so she said the arthritis must be in my jaw. So the solution was to not eat these. However I now get a sore jaw without sometimes without doing a lot of chewing.
I spoke to G.P who asked have I spoke to dentist, so I spoke to dentist who asked if I had spoke to doctor so then I spoke to Consultant who asked who diagnosed arthritis in my jaw. ???????0 -
Hi
i have jaw ache and sometimes it is worse than other times, i too have had it for about 6 months, i dont eat anything chewy, sweets gum, meat etc cos it hurts to much if i do. it mainly hurts when eatting or openning my mouth wide, it is ok when i talk most of the time, when its very painful i take anti- fams and paracetamol which helps but it doesnt really go.
i am hoping it will go one day, i had a painful shouder for about 8months and now its alot better (although not quite normal) so have some hope for jaw.
i have early RA.
still i can still stuck chocolate
hope it carms down for you. x0 -
Hiya
I've been having a particularly painful flare up for the past couple of days, for some reason it is also effecting my jaw which it hasn't done for years. I'm having real trouble eating and speaking. It hurts even when I'm not moving it and its really painful! Its either RA or tetanus!!
Just wondered what people managed to eat when they can't get their mouth open very wide or chew? It didn't half spoil my roast dinner, I had to suck most of it!
I hope it settles down in a few days, don't fancy eating my Christmas dinner through a straw, especially as we're staying with my in laws who don't really understand the RA thing anyway (get the general impression that they think I'm swinging the lead). To compound matters I can't take any other pain killer other than paracetamol due to pregnancy.
Anyone got any advice??!!0 -

i normally eat soup, chocolate, chopped up pasta, mash, veg mashed up stuff like that.
i find paracetamol does help abit.
hope it dies down for you.0 -

Hi poppsicle .. I am new to the forum I have been looking back over posts to see if I have anything in common ...
I have had this, still got it really, but I forget I have it .. a few years back I had been grinding my teeth the dentist had a gum shield made for me because I was getting terrible headaches not being relieved by painkillers ... I had x-rays done at the hospital and the dentist said it was arthritis I think its call mandibular something cant remember, the condition does have a name … xray showed the sheaths are wearing away ...
I had to go on a soft diet for months .. until you become accustomed to it and then I had forgot about it because I do not chew stuff now (meats gum toffees etc )... it is still there and could be triggered by the wrong chewing methods ..... I hop you are better .... jenny x0 -

Hi Toni ... I still get the crunching sound the same ones as we do with you knees … and other joints .. if I open and close my mouth you can hear it crunching ... so it does not go away, just deal with it better, so be careful not to much chewing … it does have a proper name I cant remember what they called it .. but the gum sheild did help, so try it if offered .
