does anyone with OA have pain when they touch their bones?

Sorry, another strange question.
Apart from the sort of joint ache that I guess one would expect with OA, I'm finding that very often the affected bones (I have it in my spine, mainly, and SIJ) are actually sore to touch.
Is this usual? Do other people find their bones or joints very tender when they touch them/lean against something, or exert some other kind of pressure?
I mentioned it to my GP and he sort of ignored it, but I wonder it there isn't something else going on here as well.
thanks in advance.

Hi Eva?
Yes I suffer with my bones touching anything or if some want to touch them like the doctor examing them I jump with pain.
Sometimes, my neck does not like to talk to my pillow. It is difficlut.
I'm sometimes so sore or hurt to touch. If I have a headache my hubby massages my neck but if he touches the bones it can be very painful.

Hi,
I have OA in my hands, knees and lower spine and, yes, all the bones in these areas are tender to touch, though not all to the same degree. My spine is always tender, as are the bones around my thumb joints, but my finger bones seem to take it in turns to be sore - better than doing it all at once, I suppose My friend, who's a nurse and an acupuncturist/aromatherapist tell me that it's possibly the muscles/tendons round the bones that are actually what's tender sometimes - possibly due to general inflamation in the area. It may be worth checking it out with your GP again though, just in case there's a secondary reason.

Hi Eva,
Yep for me thats normal as well. My spine always sort of feels grazed and my collar bones don't even like the t-shirt touching them lot of the time. I rub my femur and hip a lot but it does mean they also feel 'odd'. I think its part of the way it goes I am afraid. Take care Cris0 -
Hi Eva and everyone
Me too I'm afraid - I just try to ignore it....bit like your doctor did

thanks all for your replies...it gets very difficult to sit (or lie down for that matter) without SOMETHING hurting....
I find it almost impossible to sit on anything other than a hard bench (where I'm sitting on my sitting bones and putting no pressure at all on my hip joints)...and even lying in bed can be a problem where the pressure on the base of my spine starts to be really painful after a couple of hours...
it's getting very depressing...0 -
I see you're having a tough time of it. I got a memory foam matress topper earlier this year and it's helped my spine a lot. It might be worth checking one out it might just help you when laying down. good luck

thanks for the suggestion, ritwren, I did try a temput mattress a couple of years ago, and didn't get on with it at all (too hot) but it may be looking into alternative types of topper to see if they help.

Hi, I get a sort of soreness that is so tender that a gentle touch is almost worse that a hard one. The back of my neck and my hands are worst at the moment. Sorry your feeling sore, love Sue xxx0

Sorry to hear asbout your sore bones. I have RA and the same applies, it hurts round the swelling but also the bones are very painful if touched.
Keep taking the pills !!!
