I wondered if anyone has had this at all and if iy is connected to RA meds of if is something new that has arrived!
For a couple of weeks I have had a really soe tongue , lots of ulcers , dry mouth and it feels like i have a lump in my throat.
I am on 6 Sulfasalazine a day, Arcoxia and painkillers and wonder if meds are causing it.
My Rumy wasnt really helpfull and said it could be and the only way to know is to cut down and see if it goes away...but this dose is really helping my RA so im scared lots of pain will come back...
Then again it may NOT be caused by it....
Hey ho....nice festive trip to docs i think....
Can anyone help????
xx

    Hi Topgirl,

Not sure how long you have been on the sulfa for but mine used to do that to me. Its lasted a while but thankfully has stopped now. It can be a sign of both the illness and the drugs so when you see your nurse it might be worth asking maybe? I m case mine gave me some stuff and then the tablets were reduced for a bit and went back up very slowly for a min. I hope it soon stops for you. Take care Cris

    Hi Topgirl

I have only just read about your problem. I get the same with the amount of meds I am on. I normally get a sore mouth about 4 days after taking my MTX and lasts about 3 days. Might be worse more some weeks than others.
My gp prescribed a Glandosane synthetic syliva for using when you are out and about. You can get diff flavours. Then use Oraldene when you clean your teeth 2 - 3 times a day. This will protect you from gum disease etc. Might be an idea to mention this to your gp when you can see him. Oraldene is cheaper to buy than hve it prescribed. Luckily i am over 65, but I still buy it.

The volume of meds we have to take brings on a whole host of other problems, some of us are not bothered with them so it isalways best to follow up with a visit to your gp or talk to the helpline.
Nice talking to you topgirl. Good luck and I shall look out for you.
Pop into the cafe for a valorie free cream cake sometime

Hi, I can sympathise so much, I have posted a few times about sore mouth, ulcers and now cold sores. I take 2 sulfa twice a day and 10 mtx once a week as well as hydroxy, naproxen and folic acid (think that's it!). I find my sore mouth gets worse every three to four weeks but then takes ages to get better, my cold sores from nearly three weeks ago have still not healed up! The rheumy told me to lower my dose of sulfa until things calmed down and then increase it back up again gradually but I'm not sure it helped, I guess it's jsut something we have to put up with! I make sure I brush, floss and use mouthwash, use Bonjela cool or Anbesol, a cold sore cream and hope for the best! It is such a pain and ulcers on your tongue hurt so much, I know how you feel and sympathise so much! Chocolate does make it much worse, sorry!!!!!!!!!

Luckly I was in a pretty good mood yesterday and found it funny( on a bad day i would have been sobbing)
I cant believe that choc makes it worse....At least when im having a bad day with pain I could chill out with my book , cd and a Galaxy....!!! GOODNESS!!!!
