    Hi Toni,

Think I might have a holly one next year...... That will stop them  Its meant to be bad luck if they are still up after the 12th night, before the 6th I don't think it matters. Its not up, its having them on........ Erk's in mine just now but it think its been battered and chewed enough for one year....... I got a dif one out there but its in a box and naturally the box is full of rats........:lol: How are you today? xx

    Hi everyone,
You are supposed to take them down on the 6th this is the 12th day, it is bad luck to leave them up after the 12th or take them down before.
I am saying **** This I have done it every year has my mother did and still got bad luck.
So I took them down yesterday, see what this year brings.
    Love to you all
    Barbara xx :lol::lol:

    hello toni,
well its all so confusing i suppose it depends what you believe in and weather or not the 12 days of christmas is not just a little like rudolf the red nosed reindeer just a myth he says as if the other 8 are true lol
Anyway if you look in the dictionary you will find 12th night falls on the 5th of Jan not the 6th it is the eve of epithany and thats the time to take your decy's down if thats what you believe. Take Care
    Colin
One last thing it is said that if you leave them up after 12th night you must leave them up all year. Ho Ho Ho

Needs to be done by 12th night (6th January) but I take mine down on New Year's Eve because I like the house clean and tidy for new year.

The 12 day's of crimbo is from the Pagen solstice 12 days of celebration so it's only an old wives tail that it's bad luck, well fingers crossed and touch wood!.

    Hi Toni

As I understand it, all decs should be away by the 6th this year. It does not matter when you put them away before the 6th January. I put everything away on the 29th this year as we were away for new year and I wanted it all to be back to normal when I got back.

The look on my little grandies face said it all, when she ran into the front room to where the tree had been, did a twirl, arms outstretched, palms up and exclaimed "tree"! She cannot string two words together yet but she made herself perfectly clear with what she meant. Priceless!

    Luv

If you are sure I won't be cursed all year....

    Hi Toni,

My Mum always took the xmas decorations down on Twelfth Night, 5th January.

I love tradition, particularly these days when so many old customs are being lost :( I find it comforting somehow to think that I, along with thousands of others, will be taking the decorations down in unison on Twelfth Night, carefully and lovingly wrapping up special trinkets 'til next time.
