The police have admitted that they made a big, big mistake and someone is now on the Chief Constable's carpet for it. Common sense should have been exercised as people do take photos of royals.

I think the phrase, 'bleedin' obvious' comes into it somewhere.

    Hi Chrisov

How are you? I hope you are keeping warm in Norfolk. How's the job going?

I agree with Joseph. I felt really sorry for people who had waited for hours in the cold, and then were treated so badly.

The royal family might not like being photographed, but this was far too heavy-handed on the part of the police.

Looking further at this, there are signs at the entrance to the Sandringham Estate, on which the church is situated, saying that photography is not allowed on the Estate. This would be for privacy and security purposes.

But this rule has not been enforced on the annual Christmas Day visit by the Royal Family to the church, which is taken as a single, exceptional public appearance rather than a totally private occasion. Someone in Norfolk Police got overeager about the rule and ordered the seizure of cameras and cameraphones from visitors at the entrance. The Head of Royal Security said that it was an 'error' and should not happen again.

The police should not have confiscated the cameras anyway but reminded the person with the camera that photographs are not allowed.

It's always been a mystery to me why anyone would want to - they are hardly raving beauties, are they?
