hi
i have suspected osteoarthritis in my hip. It has completely shocked me as im 28 ( it shouldnt really as i was diagnoised with RA in hands and feet 2 years ago)
It started with pain in my hip after trying to loose weight (actually lost 5 and a half stone and still going!) and ended up in them saying i have a deformed hip joint, basically looks like it was broken at some point but they think it was when i was growing up!!! They now think there is OA in there as iam in terrible pain. Having an MRI scan on sunday (yes i know bloody 8am on a sunday!) and was wondering what that shows?

Amazing things MRIs you jknow...
they show almost everything like soft tissues, muscles for example as well as bones nerves - the lot!!
They take about 20 mins and you ARE in a tunnel (cream cloured mine was) and could be claustrophobic so I shut my eyes throughout!
They will tell you that it will be for example 'noisy' (it IS!!) bangs thumps as the machine takes photos through the body (good eh?)
You might have music on - if you do you culd count the singles @ 3 minutes each so you know how long you have been in there.
You can call them if you are not ok too although they will make you as comfy as they can with foam wedges and the like.
Good luck Gemma i hope then they can help you.

Hi Gemma,
Sorry you have had this land at your door. Hey well done for loosing the weight Its odd isn't it that s the weight comes off it hurts more. I guess it looses the cushioning maybe? I hope they soon help your hip and please let us know. Cris x0 -
hi
just wanted to add to what toni has said and take pain killers before, i had my back and hips scanned not so long ago and for my hips they placed a pillow under your legs to put your hips in a better postion for the scan, it didn't hurt whilst it was being done but when i went to get up and walk i was very stiff.
i honestly thought it was the ra in my hips turns out i have tears in my cartilage of my hips joints!
good luck

Very very quick (days) if anything really scary, but normally a couple of weeks and goes to referrer e.g rheumy or PG.
I would check with the radiologist while you are there.
Hey Good luck

Hi Gemma
Sorry you missed your appointment, hope this rotten snow goes away soon.
The best tip I had was to keep your eyes closed and don't open them until its done. I also agree take any painkillers beforehand to avoid any discomfort, don't worry about the noise, its not that bad and modern machines are much quieter.
As for the results, its really weird looking at the insides of you own body, but very interesting. MRIs show much more than XRays.

Hi Good Luck with your MRI
Its not dreadful.......not very pleasant but OK.
Very very noisy...i had ear defenders on ....no music. I just closed my eyes.....they give you a button to press if you are having problems and they'll bring you out but the way I looked at that was that it was only delaying the inevitable......so unless it was something serious I was not going to press that button.
I had an accident beginning of last year where a car reversed and then drove over my ankle....it was well smashed and now i have got plates, scres and pins in that ankle to hold it together so I dont think I can have any more MRI's......I'm so sad!!!!!! LOL
