Hi,
Not stupid at all. I have had it done a few times and I didn't feel a thing. The accupuncturist but some gel on first which was cold. Once the pins were in, I just lay and relaxed.

I had acupuncture on my head, neck, shoulders and back for arthritis some years ago. I can truthfully say that I never felt a thing and it kept me going all through one very cold winter. After each weekly session it felt as if a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.
I was lucky at the time because one of the physios at the local NHS clinic did it; she has now left. We do have a couple of Chinese places which offer it, but I am very wary..........not sure that I will be able to convey exactly what I require, as far as I can tell, not one of them speaks English and an interpreter is required.

I had it back last year..............
Most sessions I never even felt the needles go in.....
It seemed to give me some pain relief....
Certainly I was a bit feared..........but pleasently surprised..
Needles in wrists and ankles......
Wanted to put one between my eyebrows...........Just couldn't.....That was one step too far......
Go for it......................

Hi Sue,
Forgive me cus my eyes are bad but its ok this acupuncture stuff. promise you. I haven't had it on my neck but did used to have it on the lumber. I couldn't see anything and it felt no worse than a hay seed in your tea shirt and them then the muscles relaxed and it was blissI really hope it will work for you and promise you its ok. Mine was done face down and sorry I don't know how the neck is done. Luv Cris xx

Hi
I have had it done quite a lot, in my neck, sholder, and down my back.
The needles are very small.
I honestly, never felt a thing, I was still sitting waiting to have it done. The doctor, asked me if something was wrong, I told her no, and said I was waiting, then she told me it was done.
You may feel a nice warm feeling afterwards.

Hi Sue
I was treated with acupuncture for bursitis in my hip last year. I was apprehensive about the needles, but they didn't hurt. I just felt it briefly as they were put in.
I had it done by a physiotherapist at my GP's and all on the NHS.
I had a course of 8 sessions, and for me, it worked. It reduced my pain level a lot, and I would certainly have it again if I needed it.
I think it doesn't work for everyone, but approach it with an open mind.0 -
I think he is going to do my neck shoulders, for six sessions if he has time will work on my back. My doctor referred me to them they are new physiotherapist for the NHS in our area, I told him that I had recently had xrays on my neck & spine waiting for results, he said he doesn't take any notice of xrays because they don't tell you every thing
I am going to give it a go I will try anything to ease the pain, sorry to have sounded like a wimp
I hope you are all keeping warm & well Suex0 -
Hi Sue,
I had acupuncture for neck and shoulder probs and it worked for me - it was an osteopath who carried it out. It would be good if you could give it a go but, as said previously, keep an open mind. Oh, and it doesn't hurt.
He also tried something else - he stuck something (don't know what but looked similar to oxo cubes in shape!!) on the end of each needle then lit them. I was then left to snooze for a while while the oxo cube things smoked away. The heat through my body felt great!!
The downside - I smelled like an Arbroath smokie by the time it was finished.
Good luck, and I look forward to hearing how you get on.

I think that's called moxibustion!! They use herbs, and heat them - think it intensifies the acupuncture, and can be very good for things like arthritis. I only know this 'cos they used it at the clinic I used to go to - people used to say it smelled like cannabis :shock:Better than smelling like a kipper though, eh?

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for that - it's good to know what I've had done to me!!! Funnily enough, I was going to say the stuff looked like little bits of cannabis resin (saw picture on a leaflet once) but thought I'd stick with the oxo cube.

I have had quite a bit of the old style Chinese acupuncture and it’s ok, I could feel them sometimes but it’s not bad and it did work, sometimes you get a tingling and a feeling of warmth, she used to fire gold studs into my ears and that worked really well they stay in for a few days then fall out very odd, but it was good fun watching people looking at you sideways wondering what the hell they were.0

Blimey I didn't know there was all different methods, I am going to give it a go I am willing to try anything I'm sure I've had a lot worse done to me in the past, It's just when you know you've had trouble with needles over the years it puts you off a bit.
thank you every one for your advise & experiences you must think I'm a right plonker :roll:I hope you are all keeping warm
take care Sue xx0
