Crashed the car

Hi All, well weve had a right good start to 2010.
we had to go out today as we were getting low on supplies.
we had only gone about 100 yrds down the road at less then 5 mph, as we neared the corner a white van came towards us on the wrong side of the road, then turned right into next road straight in front of us.
OH was driving & couldnt avoid him as the road was thick ice. Bang, we hit him in the passenger door. His door is totally caved in. Ours is the bumper & bodywork, not sure if theres any more damage til its looked at. He says he was blinded by the sun & then skidded across the rd. :roll:He was going to work in the rd he turned into, but can just about believe he didnt see us, but he seemed to speed up to cut the corner in front of us..
Ive jarred my neck but ok appart from that.
so ive spent the best part of the afternoon on the phone to insurance company.
weve had 6 things go wrong today, including OH dropping the boot of the car on my head.
Im so glad to be home & shut the door on the blasted snow & ice. I didnt want to chance it going out but needed loo roll & bird food. now weve got a damaged car as well.
Hope your all safe, becareful out there the rds are lethal.

Hi Deb

take care x0 -
Hi Debs,
That's just not good for you. Glad your okish and hope your not too shook up. (((((((((( )))))))))) Luv Cris xx0 -
Debs, I am so, so sorry that you have had this shock. What you are feeling is very normal, wanting to shut the world out. Thats fine for a few days, just to lick your wounds, but be careful not to let it become a habit.
My love to you.........Ange.0 -
Hi Jan, I think he was talking on his mobile as i heard some1 talking through a phone on the other end, but of course i cant prove that.
debs0 -
Hi Thanks,
Page, were not to sure how fast he was going but diffo to fast for ice & snow. He seemed to speed up to take the corner in front of us & he cut the corner on the wrong side of the road.
Cris, thanks just hoping ive not got whiplash.
Ange,Im just a bit wary now of going out. I'll be fine.
Thanks all.
luv debs0 -
Hi Deb,
Gosh I am sorry to hear you have had such a rough day. What a pain to be in a crash, it is dodgy on the roads at the moment that's for sure.
I really hope your neck is okay. Hubby was in a crash a few years ago and thought he was fine until the next day when he couldn't move his neck for pain, he had whiplash from being hit from behind.
Maybe it's a good idea to visit a doc just for a once over - we are all a bit fragile on here as it is plus you also had a wallop from the boot
Hope tonight has proved to be a bit better for you
take care

Debs
Are you sure that your neck is going to be okay? Should you have not let a doctor?
I would have a nice warm drink and wrap up warm in bed.
Love Trisher xx0 -
HI Debs,
so sorry to hear about the accident - I am not surprised that you are feeling shaken. But what Ange says is good advice.
Also Having had a similar type of accident in the past I would suggest you go to see your GP tomorrow and get checked out - I found that I was ok but was told I could easily not have been, and to have left it would not have been good.
Just look after yourselves and take things steady.
hugs ((((((((((((()))))))))))))0 -
Hi all. you are all great, thanks for all your replies.
Rehab, i thought the insurance covered injuries substained in an accident. But i will keep that in mind if not.
Ive been told, because the car is still driveable we can wait til the liability is estabished then we dont have to pay excess & will get a courtesy car. But if we put car straight in for repairs we have to find the £350 excess. Luckily i protected the no claims & we dont lose that.
I cant see there being a problem with liability as we hit him in his passenger door as he took the corner in front of us.even the insurance com, said the same.
Arna, Trisher & wonky, Thanks im keeping an eye on my neck & this headache. The impact & noise im so surprised that the airbags didnt release,The cars got 7.weve got a no smoking clinic to get to tomorrow & i need my presciption, neither of us want to get in the car & its too far for me to walk it. But we'll see how we feel in the morning.
Thanks to you all.

Debs, do get it checked out, I had a whiplash without realising it years ago when we skidded on black ice...........it's ok now, or seems to be, but I had probs with it for years after.
Annie0 -
Hi Anne, I have a bad neck anyway.
cervical spondylosis, so its hard to decipher between that & the whiplash, but if i wake in loas of pain tomorrow i will get it checked out.
Trouble is im now frightened to go out in car.
OH was driving & he isnt to keen either on getting back behind the wheel.
I got appointment to get to tomorrow & prescription to pick up. The road here its like glass. after the accident i got out to give the guy a gob full & i couldnt even stand up on the road.

If you haven't yet, write up everything that happened and everything that was said. Draw up a plan of the road and the positions of the cars before, where they moved to and positions after the accident. Take photos of the scene showing the icy road. Put everything in a folder and keep copies of everything sent/received. Don't expect to remember every detail in a few days, you won't.
If you didn't see him using his mobile then you may have heard his radio. If you say in your claim that he may have been using a mobile and it turned out to be untrue, then all your statements become suspect.
When my car was damaged some time ago, I had to pay the excess myself prior to the repair and requested my insurance company in writing to reclaim it from the other driver's insurance. It took about 2 months for their cheque to arrive. I did however, get a brand new Escort for a few weeks while mine was in the bodyshop. Nice!
Remember also, that as far as the insurance company is concerned it is a 'No Claim Discount' not a 'No Blame Discount'. As such, even though you have 'protected no claims', you have to give details of the claim with any future insurance quotes/renewals.
There are many icy road claims at this time of the year and yours sounds pretty normal from the description. So you shouldn't have any real problems if your paperwork is OK. Rest, put your feet up and it will hopefully get sorted as smoothly as possible.

Hi Jan, i can get them delivered,
Thanks Joseph, ive printed off what yourve said. I havent mention mobile phone as thats hard to prove.
I will send OH up to the spot where it happened in the morning to get photos of the ice, corner & accident spot.
Thank you all for your help & concerns.

Sorry to hear about your accident.Which area do you live in?It sounds like he crossed into oncoming traffic(you). But of course he could claim it was the weather conditions that were a major factor in the accident.
You have a pre-existing neck condition and they will probably try to say your injuries were already there so take advice.
All the best

Hi Debs
So glad you are ok
That was a scary story.
We should all stay in if at all possible.
I hope your neck is a bit better, but sometimes they get worse after an impact before they get better.
What is Graham doing dropping the boot on your head???!!!
and good luck with the isurance company.
You take care
Love#

Oh bugger minky flippin white van man strikes again, it’s true what they say about cars and that’s the loosest nut is the one behind the wheel, you would have thought that the moron would have stopped to look properly before pulling out, what if it was a bike he would have killed them, people these day’s seem to treat others with little regard, as a chap said at work once my life may mean **** all to you but it mean the world to me. Down here I have seen it all from drunk drivers bouncing off kerbs to foreigners going the wrong way roundabouts, even had guy on a bicycle ride across the road in front of me when I was exiting a roundabout to go down the works road, he never batted an eyelid even as I screeched to a halt 6 inches from his leg. Hey but it was in Didcot say no more!.0

So sorry to read about this, but reread Rehab's post and do what he says.

Hi Debs
I've only just caught up with this, and I'm sorry to hear about your accident.
You have had some good advice from Joseph and others, so hope you can get it sorted out with the insurance.
I hope you are OK.
Love Joan0 -
I've seen some stupid drivers these past few days. Like you Debs, I've crawled along, but seen young idiots sliding around corners ramming into cars.0
-
Hi Debs, I am really sorry to learn about your accident, I am just catching up, hope that you are ok today, also hope that you can prove it was his fault, I thought everyone knows to drive slowly in the snow and ice, he didn't obviously love Jaspercatxx0

Hi Everyone, thanks for the many replies & advice.
Im ok thanks, just a bit achy but no damage to me. I just needed a good rest up.
I still keep seeing it happening & wary about being in the car.
Jan, thanks luv they did deliver my meds for me. I did go in for them but the delivery hadnt come in ( yes just my lorry load ) so i didnt even ask they just said we'll deliver them after 4.30. There very good & have said to me before if i ever struggle to get in they will deliver them.
Some body rang today from the legal team at insurance company & will be in touch soon. Said the other side will try to get out of it if they can. so at least its moving & being dealt with.
Thanks again to you all, always there when i need you. Priceless.
