Not sure about this one, and I suppose we're all different, but from my experience, it would make everything worse   (it's been a while, the RA has happened since then, so never had the 2 together :? )
It will be interesting to see how it affects others though. Hope you're hangin' on in there!!

The level of pain I have always increases with my period. It was actually my husband that put two and two together so I am sure it's not just in my head

Hi,
My OA is always worse during and just before my period. I mentioned it to my GP once. He saud that (as any woman can tell you) most women's bodies retain fluid when they're having a period. This means there is very slightly more fluid in the joint capsules. Most women wouldn't notice this tiny bit of extra fluid in the capsules, but if the joints are already tender and inflamed - as in arthritis patients - it'll be noticable as inclreased stiffness or soreness. In fact, when I started having problems with my fingers, before my diagnosis, he said that the fact that the pain worsened during my period was an indication that the problem was joint related rather than muscular. Don't know if this means that taking water-release tablets each month would help - probably best to ask your GP first I'd think.

SO Yes you are justified if you are feeling extra bad :!:

From what I understand, arthritis is estrogen based, that's why women are more prone to it than men, therefore when your period is due/happening/finished your hormone levels are all over the shop and that's why your joints are affected too at this time of the month.

I'm the same, in fact it's quite a relief when my period comes along as I know the pain has peaked for a while!
I asked my rheumy this question, and he answered just as Lindalegs has done.
