Hi Maria,
Have you tried a hot bath and a milky drink before you go to bed?
If I'm awake during the night I put the radio on very quietly, though hubby can't hear it 'cos he snores too,and I concentrate on what's being said rather than the thoughts rolling round in my mind. Another thing I do is reconstruct my day from the time I got up - it's not as easy as you'd think. By chanelling your thoughts somewhere specific can send you off into the land of nod.
Hope you have a better night tonight.

Hi Maria
When I cannot sleep it is due to pain rather than an overactive mind. I find, eating a bowl of cereal helps, but more importantly a hot water bottle or a heated wheatbag usually does the trick for me.Not going to bed too early either and not having a nap in the day helps me have a better night's sleep.
I hope you soon find a solution. Sleep deprivation is not good.

Thanx everyone
My problem is not getting to sleep its staying asleep!
I get constant pins & needles even when wearing my hand splints! Think its coz i sleep on my sides so whole hand goes numb not just the usual fingers from Carpal tunnell syndrome
I try a listen to my ipod but end up singing to the songs in my head so that doesnt work!
I end up getting up & going down to watch TV!
I will try hot water bottle coz its pain that disturbs me too
Ive even tried nytol waste of time!
Ive managed 10 hrs last night but still feel knacked
Take care x0 -
i had exactly the same problem until i invested in an electric bed best thing i ever did wish id done it years ago.
if that is not possable invest in lots of pillows, v shape ones etc prop them under your arms etc even under the matress.
tell your gp who may prescribe you something suitable.
before xmas i brought a clip on to a book light so i can read in bed
as said before wheat bags, hot water bottles and heat patches
are you wearing resting splints to bed or your dayones? perhaps ask ot for resting ones. good luck finding a solution.0 -

I know how you feel about not getting enough sleep Im the same and can only sleep on my sides, this cold weather is not helpting my arthritis. I feel so tired all through the day as a result of not sleeping.
I am on amitriptiline at night but I still wake and find that i have to sit up all the time, Maybe a new bed should be on my list of things to do this year. I hope you feel better soon.0 -
Hi
I bought one of those memory foam mattresses which helps reduce back pain and therefore helps me sleep.
If I am kept awake by a nagging pain I usually get up and take 2 Co-Codamol with a cup of tea, try to read a book or magazine and pet my cat, these tend to act as a distraction.
I find the tea helps the pills kick in faster.

Hi, I have been prescribed a small dose of amatriptylne, which help with the pain and sleep. I also have tramadol, the slow release tablets which help in the night more than the ordinary ones. It was the Pain Management Clinic suggested changing from the ordinary type to slow release, so they work during the whole night. I also have the memory foam mattress topper and pillow, which I find helpful. Love Sue0

Well if you find a cure for insomnia let me know, I was up at 0200 hrs again due to chilli paste making my knees burn like hell, it always does it then!?. it's either that or the pain keeps me up, I find Gin and Tonic helps but I can hover through a bottle of that like no bodies business, so it's not much of a option. :roll:0

I had a better nights sleep managed 10hrs but pins & needles still kept waking me up! But managed to ignore them & nod off again
Ive tried the alcohol but that didnt make a difference
Doesnt help coz ive got issues at work worrying me
Might ask Gp abt slow release Tramadol as on the usual one 100mgs to 200mgs four times a day so that might b an option
Thank you all for your posts
I did think of a hammer but dont want any more pain lol
take care x0 -

I don't think Tramadol will help with pins & needles, Tramadol is a straight pain killer :?: , someone please correct me if this is wrong.
I also get pins & needles in my hands/arms while sleeping, but am lucky that a change in posture eventually gets rid of them.
What about Pregabalin which is used for neuropathic pain, I take it for FMS, so that might help :?:

I only get one night of decent sleep per week, when I think my body is exhausted.Last night awake at 4.I try to avoid drinks late at night cos need the loo and walking there can be quite painful so this may be one reason cant get back to sleep.I never sleep in the day either.
Not sure how to get over this problem!
