Major, major flare up

I ventured out yesterday. Only into town on the bus to meet up with old school friend of mine. We have been in touch over the years and she has been bridesmaid 3 times for me. Work that one out. I wanted to congratulate her on her becoming grandma again
I did some shopping, naughty, because I was not suppose to carry heavy shopping bags. Struggled home again and I was feeling a bit flu like whilst talking to my friend. Started feeling achy.
Extremely tired. Once home pain worse, head to my toes. So took some paracetamols and went to bed. I slept for a bit but then later the pain woke me up and I could not move, couldn't get to the lou without OH helping me.
Got worse and in the end, OH sent for the doctor. Told him I had taken all the painkillers I thought I was allowed. I also told him about the chiro sessions and he told me that they should be helping, but yes, major flare up plus blockage he thinks. I have had a bit of blood lately too. He gave me an injection of morphine Is going to arrange endoscopy for me. Flare ups, as you know, can happen anytime but with the other prob made it worse.
Dr is coming back out to see me again today to see how things are 'moving'.
I didn't think I had a problem because seemed to be going toilet ok except for this pain across my back, which I thought was brusing from the chiro sessions Just been rubbing arnica cream on the bruised areas. So if you don't hear from me .......

Oh, Joy, you are in a bit of a state, so sorry you've copped this for a New Year treat.
Rest up and keep warm - and I know I would have done exactly the same regarding the shopping.
Hope that the morphine works some and that you feel better soon.

Hello everyone.
Had to get up to do the necessaries.
I am feeling somewhat more comfortable although having extreme difficulty walking The pain is unbareable then.
Staying in bed was becoming painful also. It looks like I may be going through the same as 14 and 7 years ago. I seem to produce polyps from time to time in my intestines, and bit by bit, I get blocked up. It can lead to very bad pains in my back. So bad, it's like being in labour. This is why my dr came out. OH had terrible row with receptionist in order to get through to gp though. Who do they think they are?
If it is polyps, then I can look forward to losing a few pounds.
An endoscopy has been arranged for next Tuesday,
I told my GP that I had been having chiro sessions and he thinks it could have helped me. I could have gone through several months of treating myself for constipation and feeling achy and sore.
So, it just goes to prove that not all pains are what you think they are. I think there is a lesson there somewhere. Do not assume!!
Thanks for your messages.Joy0 -
I forgot to add that there does seem to be a flare up happening.
The weight of the bedclothes on my legs feels like I have broken them. Have rigged up a sort of day bed downstairs, but of course you don't get peace and quiet there what with phone ringing and oh keeps talking.
when you want to sleep.
my hands and arms are uncomfortable, infact I feel uncomfortable all over plus my temp is up.blood pressure up too. Don't know. how do you know it is a flare up?

What an awful time you`re having Joy. You have spent so much time lately looking after everyone else too. Well, now, it`s all about you. Please take great care.......Much love.....Ange.0

Look after yourself, Joy, a little TLC and pampering wouldn't come amiss - you need it.
It's often impossible to tell which condition is causing what to flare - all you can do is rest, rest and more rest.
The weather is supposed to get worse over the weekend and it is time for you to just stay inside and watch out of the window - if you can't move fast enough to keep warm you could well get a chill from the severe cold - I ended up hospitalized the last time I was silly enough to be stubborn about it!
Hope you have a good stock of books or crosswords or whatever-you-like-to-do's at times like this!

I've been awake since 5 am. Wrapped up in my Faux Fur Throw.
Fire on. Couldn't get comfortable in bed again. My thighs make me think it is a PMR flare, but my arms don't ache except my elbows. Hips are very sore but my feet, ankles and knees are killing me as are my hands and wrists. Then all the muscles inbetween. Feeling nauseous the whole time, but not actually sick. As you say, shall stay warm today. Dr prescribed some more morphine patches for the next new days. see you soon and (())to you too.
joy0 -
It might be the RA - the PMR-like pain in the thighs might be referred pain from your hips. Whatever it is, it can't be pleasant, so lots of ((((())))) for you.
Try to move around from time to time, but I'm sure you already know that one!
Hubby had to have two endoscopies last Autumn and he had several polyps removed the second time. He's fine now, so I hope you will be much better once it's all over, that can't be helping either.

Hello Joy,
So sorry you are so unwell. I hope that, if it is a flare, it won't last too long. I am glad the doc has arranged a quick endoscopy, that should give you and the medics an understanding of what the best treatment is. So, heres a few big hugs comming to you down the line, I hope they don't hurt you!& lots of love Suexxxxxx

Mind you, this is how I felt with the blocked .......... before. As I said, never take pain for granted. It can mean so many things.
Thank you everyone for your help. It's good to have folks to moan to.

After my really bad flare up last week, I have just come back from dr
feeling very sore. Had phone call Monday saying that there had been some delays with cases due to the weather and will forward me a new appointment next week. Good job I hadn't started drinking all the 'poo' stuff. Situation has settled down a little bit.
As arthritis flare-ups go. I think mine is in the range of 8 out of 10. really struggling with heels, ankles, fingers wrists, shall I go on. Hips, neck etc etc. My shoulders and thighs hurt from a PMR flare up too. So that will be an increase in steroids for a few days. When will it end?
My knuckles look like they have been in the fire. Can't bare to touch them at the moment. I know I haven't taken all the Tramadol and Pregabelin I am able to take, but if I take the max, I am existing like a Zombie. As my gp has said, there is nothing else they can do for the pain even with the patches I was given aswell. Does anyone else get to the point that they don't know what to do with themselves. I am trying to keep busy to hopefully work through it but slowly giving up. Now that I have had my weekly moan. I shall be of foranother cup o coffee

That sounds terrible, I don't have any constructive advice but just really wishing you a quick recovery!0

Hi Joy,
sorry you're having such a bad time...I know what you mean by 'not knowing what to do' when you're in a bad flare.
I put the electric blanket on and go to bed! the all over heat is soothing.
hope you get some relief. gentle hugs (((( ))) iris x0 -
Aw, Joy, I know what it's like.........hope you are managing to work through it, but it does make me so tired I found it's best for me to work a little and rest a lot.
I have just reminded myself to ask if you have been given the 1mg Pred tabs..........I have found them so very useful if I want to put up the dose by a small amount, or reduce a higher dose gradually. Although they are not coated, I have found a small dose OK, but I take Lansoprazole anyway.
I'm getting more and more convinced that this weather has a lot to do with it. Roll on Spring!
