Hi,
I have R.A and got severe knee pain due to the inflammation.I couldnt straighten them for years. But they never refused to move,it was always the pain that stopped me moving them.
They are better now and can stretch them out in bed nowadays!

Hello Jordans mum
Arthritis pain is the worse thing i have ever suffered
its hard to explain it to other people but it really is bad. Its hard to get relief even with pain kil;lers. Talk to your GP or Rheumy nurse and see if you can get any pain relief for him. So sorry
Take care

Hi jordans mum, my little girl Lucy 7 has just been dignosed too, she gets pain all of the time, and finds walking hard!!
I hope your little boy starts to get help now that he is being treated. There are many of us mum's on the young ppls forum!!0 -
thank's everyone the consultant didn't say what type of arthritis it was or i didn't hear her it was like a blur he has physio so will mention the pain to them he goes back to see the consultant on the 18th so i will ask lots of questions. they decided to give jordan an injection in his hip but as yet nothing but parasetamol and ibrufin for the pain which he has been taking for a year. i feel so guilty because there is nothing more i can do i hate seeing him in pain.0
-
I am sure you do. He might need to go on a different/more medication if he is in so much pain. The ones he is taking are relatively mild in my opinion.Go back to consultant on 18th and make them aware he is in lots of pain. In the meantime you could phone consultant to let them know as 18th is a long time when in so much pain.I know how he feels as have felt like this in the past but better medication has helped me tremendously.Keep in touch.

Hello Jordansmum and welcome to the forum!
So sorry your wee boy has arther; it must be very hard as a mum to see your child in pain and to feel helpless.
As others have already said, find out from your son's consultant exactly what type of arthritis he has as this may make a difference to the types of treatment you should expect him to receive. It will also help with getting the right sources of support and information.
Write down what questions you need answered and describe the frequency, type and any obvious pattern to the pain your son is getting. Also consider having someone else with you who can support you when you're there. Ask if they have a specialist nurse as a contact person for after the consultation..that can also be very useful both for further advice for your boy and you!
You have nothing to feel guilty about!!! you obviously care very deeply for your son and only want what's best for him.
Take care. we are all here to support you! iris x0 -
Hello, I'm so sorry for you little boy and of course, you. It must be so hard to watch a child in such pain. I have arthritis (oa) in my hips and lower back and find that my leg sort of gives way sometimes or I get a pain shoot down my leg. Arthritis causes all kinds of pains and I think the best thing to do is talk to either his rheummy or your GP as soon as possible. Love Sue0

Hi jordansmum,
How old is your son? I was about 6 when I started with my arthritis but I wasn't diagnosed until I was 11. I'm 28 now had a knee replacement in May 2009.
I don't remember my knees locking when I was little but I do remember them locking a little bit when I got older, maybe it was because of the cold, I can't remember.
I hope you get the help and advice you need and if you ever need to ask anything I or my mum are happy to chat.
Take care.

Is there another GP you can see?
Have you been giving him any painkillers?
My rheumatologist told me when I was Jordan’s age to take a full dose of paracetamol which was 8 a day. He also said that even if I felt better to stil take the next dose as the pain would be even worse later on in the day. My Mum and Dad weren’t too happy about giving me pain relief like that but we kind of had no choice.
Have you thought about ringing the helplines with regards to the physio? I’d be inclined to maybe try a few less repetitions; I’ve done this before when a joint had been particularly bad so I’ve still kept it moving as much as I can.
Is he at high school yet? I was diagnosed in the May before I went to high school.0 -

Hijordansmum,
I'm so sorry to read what's been happening since yesterday. It's a disgrace how you and Jordan are being treated! how dare they leave you feeling stranded like this!
If the physio hasn't called back then call NHS 24!! and get advice/someone to see him. You must be worried sick. Wish we could do more to help!
please let us know how you both are. Irisx0 -
thank's everyone have just got jordan settled in bed he's had a nice warm bath which always makes him feel beter.Jordan takes the max amount of parasetamol and max amount of ibrufin, sorry spellings dreadful it,s late and i'm feeling cross. To try and get an appointement at our surgery is niegh on impossible you have to barrage your way through trearge nurse just to be told there is nothing the doctor can do and wait till you see the consultant but the problem with that is they only have a clinic every six weeks i find the whole thing very frustrating sorry to rant but i feel beter for it..In answer to your question yes he is in high school in year seven and loves it which is more than i did  .On a brighter note it's warmer tonite 0degrees i think i might get my bikini on :shock:0

what kind of night did you both have? hope things are better for you today and Jordan's pain is lessening. will be thinking about you. keep posting to let us know how he..and you...are. Iris x0 -
Hot water bottles on the painful joint are nice too.Make sure you are well prepared for consultant meeting on 18th.Get questions ready and ask if anymore pain medication required as he is still in pain with present amount.

Hi Jordan’s Mum,
I’m glad Jordan is enjoying high school. I wasn’t so keen either but I did do ok at school although I was hardly there. My school was on 3 floors with no lift so it was a bit difficult. The teachers and my mum and dad never put any pressure on me, the fact I got to school they were really pleased and they were more bothered about me finishing a whole week than getting good grades!!
I did do ok though and I’ve now got a masters degree so all the time off hasn’t really affected me too much.
Have you thought about giving Jordan co-codamol for the pain? I went from paracetamol to co-codamol and then to stronger prescription pain relief when I was about 15.
I don’t think you’ve mentioned if you’ve been referred to a rheumatologist because this will be so important for him. He will be able to have all disease modifying drugs which will make a massive difference.
Keep your chin up and good luck with the weight watchers. I should probably be going as my brother gets married this year and I want to look good.
Take Care.
